In Madonna's head, chances are the fearless way she went to Malawi for three seconds, did a bit of a dance in front of some kids and brought one back to England should be congratulated, or at least rewarded with some kind of sparkly crown.
That hasn't really happened, though – in reality the majority of people think that the way a faddish career-minded middle-aged celebrity like Madonna, who spends a great deal of time jet-setting around the world, jumping on the faddish bandwagon for adopting African babies with seemingly scant regard for international adoption laws probably could have been a bit more though through. Madonna, though, is determined to put this whole kerfuffle about the adoption of David Banda to bed. And it seems to be working; by blaming the media for the public reaction to her adoption again in another interview again, Madonna has ensured that most people are so sick of hearing about Madonna and adoption and Malawi and David Banda that they'd rather go outside and try to un-jam their lawnmower with their genitalia than think about it any more.
We're not saying that Madonna adopting a boy from Malawi in the most hamfisted way possible was all just a publicity stunt to get people buying the fourth single from her latest album – but if it was, it was a good one, and we're looking forward to seeing the ginger one from Girls Aloud go to Eastbourne later on this week to foster a set of twins to increase sales of that song about someone jumping on her tutu. Not since Madonna twatted around on a shiny cross has she known so much controversy, and that happened literally six weeks ago – an age in Madonna terms.
The controversy that Madonna's adoption of David Banda was far-reaching and furious. Human right groups questioned how closely Madonna had been sticking to international adoption laws, it seemed like the adoption process hadn't been clearly explained to David Banda's father and even Guy Ritchie was meant to be a bit "Oi, what the bleedin' hell's gaaaain on?". So Madonna launched herself headfirst into a tiresome defence of the adoption. So far, Madonna has tried to convince the public that she's really quite a nice lady in several ways; by a statement on her website, by telling Oprah that everything was the media's fault, by talking to Newsnight about the adoption in a tent.
And, by and large, it worked; everything fell into place for Madonna – Yohane Banda gave Madonna his blessing, the human rights groups stated that David Banda would get a better life under the care of Madonna than in his Malawi orphanage and Guy Ritchie… well, who really cares what Guy Ritchie thinks? But Madonna doesn't seem to have got the memo saying that people have started to move on from all this in favour of going "WHAT? Doogie Howser's GAY?" and her latest actions just seem like those of a woman desperate for attention. Madonna has already threatened to adopt another baby, and now she's back on the whole 'blaming the media' thing in an interview with Time magazine, as Fox News reports:
"When you throw in things like I'm a celebrity and I somehow got special treatment, or make the implication of kidnapping, it gets mixed into a stew, and it sells lots of papers," the singer told Time magazine in an interview for editions on newsstands Monday. "What they should care about is that there are over a million orphans in Malawi," she said. Madonna added that there was an element of nationalism and racism in the news media. "There's a lot of Brits – reporters on the street – who've said 'Why don't you adopt a kid from Britain?' Or 'Why did you adopt a black child?'"
It might be wise for Madonna to stop carping on about her Malawi adoption so much now, since she's beginning to resemble the old ladies that corner you at bus stops, talk to you to stuff you don't care about for 45 minutes and then show you their knickers. Except we've already seen Madonna's knickers, haven't we?

You know if Madonna would stop babbling maybe this thing would go away. But it seems that the more she insists on talking about the subject, the more the contradictions keep coming to light. The media doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to the latest contradictions to surface but who knows; if she keeps talking the tide may turn.

It is a shame that Madonnna got that poor child. Can it ever live normally with all the press and media attention?
