Usually when a celebrity says or does something a bit dumb, they have to claw as hard as they can to get their career back on track, but not Alec Baldwin – he's so upset about calling his daughter a "rude pig" that he never wants to act again.
Speaking to The View in a pre-taped interview this week, Alec Baldwin reiterated the shame he felt after bellowing abuse at his 11-year-old daughter on a voicemail message – a shame so strong that Alec Baldwin wouldn't mind if he never acted again, since it'd give him more time to nurture his two new support groups, for rude thoughtless pigs who need their asses straightening out and for men who think that Kim Basinger is kind of a bitch. Or something.
Celebrity disgrace usually follows a set pattern, as everyone from Mel Gibson to Michael Richards to Jade Goody to Isaiah Washington has shown – an apology followed by a real apology followed by a meeting with leaders of the offended community followed by a stint in rehab. But Alec Baldwin cares not for your rules, for he is an Oscar-nominated actor. Plus he's not sure who the leader of the Rude Thoughtless Little Pig community is. Write in if you can help him out on that one.
After the voicemail of Alec Baldwin loudly threatening his daughter for not answering the phone first surfaced, Baldwin has gone to great pains to show how sorry he is. Firstly there was an apology left on the official Alec Baldwin website that was swiftly followed by the bizarre dismissal of Alec Baldwin's agents. And now Alec Baldwin is loudly wondering whether or not he should give up acting, as CNN reports:
"If I never acted again I couldn't care less," Baldwin said in a pre-taped appearance for ABC's "The View," scheduled to air Friday. The actor, in a transcript provided to The Associated Press by "The View," said that he also wanted to quit "30 Rock" so the sitcom and the hundreds who work on it wouldn't "be hurt by the situation." … "I've had enough of this quite frankly to last me a lifetime, especially in the modern tabloid world and … there's a bigger thing I want to do, there's a more important thing I want to do," Baldwin said.
That bigger thing turns out to be dedicating his life to the cause of 'parental alienation' – a situation that tends to occur when your ex-wife gets a judge to ban you from contacting your 11-year-old daughter because you screamed abuse into a telephone at her for two solid minutes. Alec Baldwin is writing a book about divorce litigation, and he says he's trying to change legislation about co-parenting and legislation.
Alec Baldwin should know about that, since he's been locked in a petty custody battle with ex-wife Kim Basinger for over five years; a fight that has included a weird rumour about a chocolate bar, a possible jail sentence and the song I Fucked Alec Baldwin In His Ass.
Sadly, though, Alec Baldwin is under contract at 30 Rock, so his dreams of quitting acting will have to wait. Not that we expect his acting sabbatical to last very long, of course – as soon as he realises that the political lobbying world pays badly and has terrible catering he'll be back making The Cat In The Hat 2 before you know it.
And if Alec Baldwin doesn't get his proposed Angry Estranged Dad bill passed in congress, he's gonna get on a plane and come to see the government for a day and he's gonna straighten their asses out when he sees them, do you understand him? He's gonna really make sure they get it. Then he's gonna get on a plane, turn around and he's gonna go home.
