Isaiah Washington Goes To Big Gay Rehab

When Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington decided to call co-star TR Knight a "faggot" in a heated on-set argument, people thought he was a great big gay-hating twit; but they're wrong – now Isaiah Washington is a gay-hating twit in rehab.

Now that rumours are flying around suggesting that Isaiah Washington will get the sack soon from Grey's Anatomy – with his character Dr Preston Xavier Burke eaten to death by a militant gay pterodactyl – Isaiah Washington is going all out to prove that he can change the hatred in his heart for good and discover exactly why he bloody well hates gay people so much by entering himself into counselling. There are no real clues as to what form Isaiah Washington's gay counselling will take, although we did happen to see an entry circled in Isaiah's phone book for a course entitled You Can Hate The Gays All You Want In Your Head, But If You Say 'Faggot' Out Loud Again Then That's Your Job On That Lousy Hospital TV Show Up The Wazoo, Buster.

When you do something wrong, rehab is always the easy answer. When Mel Gibson got drunk and slagged off the Fucking Jews, he quickly went to rehab. When Whitney Houston swapped singing power ballads for smoking crack, seeing imaginary demons and crying a lot, she went to rehab too. And when Lindsay Lohan made Just My Luck, she also went to rehab. We hear that Lindsay's telling everyone she's in rehab because she's so off her face on booze all the time, but we think the real reason is because she doesn't want to make a film as bad as Just My Luck again. Admittance of a problem is the first step to recovery, Lindsay. We're praying for you.

But In Isaiah Washington's case, it's hard to go to rehab because – unlike Mel, Whitney or Lindsay – he can't blame his suspect behaviour on a substance. When he called TR Knight a faggot during the fabled Grey's Anatomy actor-fight of last year, forcing TR Knight to admit his gayness to the world, he did it because he's a bit of a bastard and nothing more. But no matter what Isaiah Washington does to try and put his unpleasant actions behind him – so far he's apologised for the fight, then apologised for hating the gays so much, then met gay leaders for some gay healing – it's still rumoured that he'll lose his job on Grey's Anatomy very soon if he doesn't sort himself out. That's left Isaiah Washington with no choice but to enter himself into counselling, as Reuters reports:

Washington, who earlier this week met gay and lesbian groups in Los Angeles, said in a statement he had begun counseling "as a necessary step toward understanding why I did what I did and making sure it never happens again… I appreciate the fact that I have been given this opportunity and I remain committed to transforming my negative actions into positive results, personally and professionally," the actor added.

Obviously deep, lifelong homophobia is a large stain to remove from someone's personality all in one go, so it may be some time before Isaiah Washington comes to terms with his issues and learns to love all men and women equally. In the meantime, though, Isaiah Washington and the producers of Grey's Anatomy are working on a short-term compromise – he'll keep his job so long as he can temporarily downgrade his gay slurs and towards TR Knight from "faggot" to either "fruit," "cupcake" or "Hey you! Yeah you, you swish swish nancy-pantsed pederast."
