Sharon Stone Sorry For Pissing Off All Of China

Hold the phone, word’s coming in that the unthinkable has just happened – brace yourselves, Sharon Stone has done something that isn’t utterly stupid.

This doesn’t happen often, so make the most of it. After saying that the recent Chinese earthquake, which has killed 70,000 people and left another five million homeless, was the result of bad karma for the country’s mistreatment of Tibet, Sharon Stone has managed to finally issue an apology.

Sharon Stone says she’s so sorry for offending the Chinese people with her thoughtless remarks that she’s going to devote herself to helping those affected by the earthquake however she can. Does anyone else get the feeling this is going to end with a patronising feature-length documentary entitled Damage Limitation: Sharon Stone Cries At Some Chinese People And Insincerely Refers To Them As ‘Incredible Little People’? Just us?

History shows that Sharon Stone doesn’t have the best grasp of things. If Catwoman and Basic Instinct 2 weren’t clear enough signs of this, then perhaps the time she called Germans “naughty” and “nasty” will do. Still not convinced? OK, Sharon Stone may have had sex with Christian Slater. Yeah, we thought that’d do it. We’re all on the same page now.

So, given that she’s a pretty dreadful judge of, well, everything, it wasn’t really a surprise when Sharon Stone called the Chinese earthquake ‘karma’ for not giving independence to Tibet. A week after it happened. To a Chinese TV crew. On camera. Just because it’s so staggeringly ill-judged, here’s what Sharon Stone said again:

“I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?”

Retribution – or is that karma? – was swift. The largest chain of cinemas in China instantly banned all Sharon Stone movies from being shown, while it’s also been reported that Christian Dior is removing Stone from all its advertisements in the country, and Louis Vuitton is considering doing the same.

So, with so much furious criticism thundering around her, Sharon Stone has done the inevitable and released a statement apologising for possessing roughly as much basic intelligence as an infant. We’re paraphrasing – here’s what Sharon Stone actually said:

“Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”

And, lest you doubt, this is the most heartfelt and sincere apology a celebrity can give – the apology that can only come when a number of huge companies threaten to stop paying you endorsement deals because you’ve fucked off an emerging superpower. Sharon Stone has never meant anything more than this apology in her entire life, we’re sure.

And perhaps this experience will help Sharon Stone as a person, too. For starters it might mean that her level of interest in any causes extends to more that ‘Tibet good, China bad’, but it might also bleed into her decisions as an actress as well, as evidenced by the way we’re fairly certain that her next movie will be a dramatisation of the earthquake starring Sharon Stone in some racially-insensitive Chinese make-up.

But only if it’s written so that Sharon Stone stops the earthquake from happening by giving freedom to Tibet and then gets worshipped as a god by all the citizens of Earth, naturally. All movies need a hero.

This karma comment that she made is much more despicable than calling the germans nasty and shit.

She has revealed that in her opinion, innoncent schoochildren and tens of thousands of human lives were lost in a natural disaster because of …what??

Her tactless scorn has angered and saddened millions of Chinese. She is DONE FOR in China, and it serves her right.

  2. says

A genius she is not. That’s for certain.
    LOL

But for those of us that do believe in karma, Other than Saudi Arabia, Israel, and of course us, China does have a pretty bad vibe due to their piece of crap government leaders.

Go ahead, manufacturers of China. Poison someone else with your incompetence and see what comes. :)

I dont think her comments were intended to mock the victims of the earthquake, they were pointed at the communist government of China and its treatment of Tibetans. Let’s be honest here, if karma does exist then the butchers of Beijing have certainly racked up alot of it over the years. Maybe now it’s coming home to roost? Only it’s their citizens who are having to pay the price.

Besides, while we’re on the topic, this pales in comparison to all the mockery and vitriol that was posted by Chinese websites after 9-11. They even made videos of the towers crashing and sold it in China as entertainment. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but for China to go on a rampage over this is typical of the hypocrisy seen out of that country.

This article sucks. Where did the writer pen it at, his bathtub? Stone made a mistake. She does not have a long history of major goofs (at least I can remember Basic Instint 1 and Casino). This writer has a chip on his shoulder.

  5. TrueVoiceOfLiberty says

The Epicenter is located in Greater Tibetan Region with about half of population there are Tibetans. Many of Victims are Tibetans in this disaster.

Integrity is tested at the time of crisis, I am disappinted to see the lack of concern from Dalai Lama in regards of tens thousands of his own people, but as for Sharon, we can not expect much for someone who is famous for spreading her legs.

  6. makes no sense says

I will just point out a simple fact that 37% of the population living around the epicenter of the earthquake are Tibetans. I am sure in Sharon Stone’s mind, the 8.0 Earthquake miraculously saved those 37% and crushed only the Han people and the various other miniorities living there. She should get a brain before talking… Karmic retribution is crap..

Well said, Mike. SS was insensitive with her comments but not more so than that was show by the Chinese right after 9.11. I am a Chinese myself and I know so from US-based Chinese web sites. SS is being singled out and her comments was taken completely out of context in some of the Chinese articles. I think these anti-west and anti-us sentiments among Chinese people are going overboard. Freedom of speech applies to everyone equally, not just when it suits your taste.

  8. scott says

Based on the Karma theory, then what sins America commited to cause the 911 tragedy (before the Iraq invasion), the Katrina devastation, the recent tornados?

  9. dragon says

Karma is an individual thing, one’s causes & effects reflects back on him or herself on the same deed he or her has done b4.
Karma is not for a group deeds reflects on ANOTHER group which has nothing to do with it !!!

If Karma is what Sharon’ means then, it will be ok to murder someone so another person can get the blame .

    Sharon ( who is the smart ass teach U @ karma !! , U’re good friend! )

With all great lessons learn from U’re friend , U has turn from an IQ150 to become an Idiot !!!

She don’t even know the Earthquake are in area with most Tibetian live in ! This show how misinform is the western world is .

Luckily this is interview by TVB from HK , if this is CNN , they will be censored , correct .

Also most “made in china” are under USA brand name who set up the factory in china with US faulty design , they pay the chinese $1.00 & pocket $10.00 from sales from their own people & don’t even do QA on their own product . Do U really think the poor guy who did the jobs for 1.00 has the idea how to do QA on the product which are design in USA .
pls remember most “made in China” ‘ boss is American ! American brought them thrust their own brand name , correct !!!

“Poison someone else with your incompetence and see what comes” – The person did this make an mistake feel sorry & commited sucide !( CNN reported this ?? ) is Sharon going to do the same ..

“this pales in comparison to all the mockery and vitriol that was posted by Chinese websites after 9-11.” – China did not cause 9-11 as U should know that ! .. Most of the videos are from CNN & BCC or may be Hollywood ???

She can apologize all she wants but it doesn’t mean anything. Obviously she hasn’t sat in front of the TV every morning watching the Chinese news channels, trying to get an update on what’s going on. She probably hasn’t watched any footage of parents mourning over the deaths of their children. Nor has she watched a the video of a woman standing in the rain for hours while rescue workers try to find her father…only he comes out dead. Survivors didn’t just lose ONE family member, okay? Many of them lost parents, spouses, and children at the same time! How dare she say as something as heartless as that? Karma, huh? Well, now her works are banned (not that she has a lot of films) and most people in China hate her now. High IQ, huh? Sure doesn’t show.

  11. Tiger says

I believe when Sharon say Karma , all she think of 1st are:
    “Daila lama my good friend”
” China bad & Tibietan good”
That’s Western culture for self righteous ,

For most Chinese & most Asian , culture , one will put the community 1st b4 self righteous.
so when interview those Chinese Actors , they will think of :
Children die in the quake , parent lost , donations , relief works at the epicentre etc ..

No mentions of self concern ,friends

Daila Lama should know this !

    facts ..
Tibietian are there too in Sichuan , so if she just think of the epicentre 1st ruther than good friend she will know she made an mistake. & She don’t know what’s Karma means.

See the different in Culture & U’ll know how people think & speak out of their heart !

  12. J Bollocks says

“Two wrongs don’t make a right”

I can’t believe, given the overall tone of your comment Mike that you missed the opportunity to say:

“Two wongs don’t make a right”

  13. fuck you mike says

to mike, you idiot! as stupid as Stone

btw, what cause 911? not natural disaster!!! THAT IS KARMA! Stupid!!!

  14. Mike says

What caused 9-11 is up for people’s interpretation. If you think it’s karma, then so be it. But you cannot deny that many Chinese people were celebrating the demise of the victims of 9-11 and that videos were distrubuted in China showing the 9-11 tragedy as entertainment. Typical anti-American bashings such as “America deserves it” were posted all over Chinese forums and websites after it happened. You want compassion from others but dont see the need to offer it. Guess what, it’s a two-way street my friend.

  15. Stabby McGee says

Could some of the Chinese people posting here please write some stuff in pinyin? I’m teaching myself Mandarin and knowing a few brazen curses would help me a lot when I’m out on my travels. Thanks!

  16. Oversea says

    to Dear Mike…

“What caused 9-11 is up for people’s interpretation.” George B has decided for U , a war to attack Taliban & Iraq.
Which results in more deaths (Young American soilders too) ! I still don’t see the people there are better off !!

The fact : 9-11 is cause by Human , US policy in the middle East has pisses off U know who?? Why 9-11 is not in China ??? Earthquake is cause by nature , it happened in CHINA, JAPAN & other countries as well .

Typical anti-American bashings such as “America deserves it” were posted all over Chinese forums. For this I’m on U’re side & don’t support this as 9-11 also kills @ 3000 lives .

If American can understand China better, get the facts correct , & give constructive comments , most of the Chinese will agree with u. Also most of the Chinese knows the government is not prefect but they’re trying hard to improve over the years! Just need some time .. America still has white policy , human right issues just 50 yrs ago ! Pls visit China & see how she has changed over 20 yrs . China is a beautiful country .. I love the mother land !

  17. Mike says

And what evil did those thousands of children commit which was so vile as to deserve them the karma of being crushed to death under collasped buildings? The apology was the more insincere since she at first denied need to apologize as she deemed that her remarks were not wrong or out of order. We all know that the apology was motivated by possible financial losses. Branding her an idiot would seem to imply that her comments were unintentional or badly worded, when infact her comments were deliberate, and she clearly wanted to and seemed to enjoy telling it to the Hong Kong or Chinese news crew, almost as if she was gloating. In the beginning she said that she had been extremely upset by the events in Tibet recently and she wanted to say or do something about it – did that mean she was mulling over how she could support Dalai lama or injure China somehow to get back. She mentioned about wanting to do something about the Olympics, obviously, it had occurred in her mind to use her celebrity status to somehow hurt China during the Olympics in order to get back at them for what they had supposedly done in Tibet. Therefore, I can only guess at her joy when she heard of the quake in Sichuan, China. This was no innocent or stupid blunder, this was an inability to suppress the urge to say, “Serves all you Chinese right. Couldn’t have wished for a more deserving fate for all of you”. She is heartless and disgusting.
