Nobody really knows what the plot of Indiana Jones 4 will be, although now Ray Winstone has signed up as Indiana Jones' sidekick, we imagine it'll involve Indiana Jones turning over some nonce wot dun 'im up like a fackin' kipper innit guv'nor.
Cockney hardman Ray Winstone has reportedly decided to star in Indiana Jones 4 alongside Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett and – possibly – Sean Connery. It's certainly an exciting development, because the casting of Ray Winstone is bound to take the Indiana Jones franchise down a whole different alley. Admittedly it's an alley where all the film's epic battle scenes will begin with Ray Winstone bellowing "Baaaaahndle!" before lurching around indiscriminately, flailing at the approaching Nazis with half a broken bottle of Stella and a snooker cue, but an alley nonetheless.
Indiana Jones 4 is quickly turning into a film we'd sell our own legs to see. Yes, we may have mocked it to begin with – after Rocky Balboa and Live Free Or Die Hard, two hours spent watching a pensionable archaeologist being chased around by a big boulder seemed like two hours too many – but now that Indiana Jones 4 is at the casting stage, we can feel the excitement brewing.
True, that excitement took a long to start brewing – not the greenlight Indiana Jones 4 script, the way that neither Harrison Ford or George Lucas could stop yammering about it incessantly or even the fact that Indiana Jones 4 will be released next year could really get us going. But now we know who'll be starring in Indiana Jones 4 alongside Harrison Ford, it's a completely different matter. Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman we can take or leave, but the best news is that veteran cockney hardman Ray Winstone – star of more great films than we care to mention – is set to join Indiana Jones 4 as a beefy sidekick. Reuters reports:
Ray Winstone is joining the expedition for the fourth instalment of the Indiana Jones adventures. The English actor, who played Jack Nicholson's partner-in-crime in "The Departed," has signed on for a major role in the untitled film being referred to as "Indy 4." Although the plot is being closely guarded, sources said Winstone will play star Harrison Ford's sidekick.
The Indiana Jones 4 role caps an incredible run of work for Ray Winstone, who has spent the last few years starring in Cold Mountain, Breaking And Entering, The Departed, Beowulf and those adverts for Kellogg's Optivita where he's all like "Vair's a bit of a facking nanny culture araand innit you facking muppet. Put somma vis Optivita stuff dahn yer mush you fackin' nonce."
More importantly, as well as just bringing his trademark glowering intensity to the screen, the inclusion of Ray Winstone in Indiana Jones 4 might just be enough to convince Sean Connery to sign up for the movie too. After all, Sean Connery's probably seen Nil By Mouth, and he's not a man to turn down free wife-beating lessons from an expert, is he?
