Cate Blanchett is one of the world's finest actresses, an Oscar-winning thespian who can flit between old Hollywood glamour and earthy realism in the blink of an eye – which makes her an ideal candidate to scream at foreigners a lot in Indiana Jones 4.
It's been reported that Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to star in the long-awaited fourth Indiana Jones movie alongside 64-year-old Harrison Ford, but the casting of Cate Blanchett raises some important questions about her role in the movie. Our crack team of Indiana Jones analysts have been hard on the case and discovered three distinct possibilities. 1) Cate Blanchett will play Indiana Jones' entirely age-inappropriate love interest. 2) Cate Blanchett will play Indiana Jones' daughter. 3) Cate Blanchett will play the nice lady that comes round Indiana Jones' house during Countdown to empty his bedpan and wipe his bottom.
It's hard to think of a movie more eagerly anticipated than Indiana Jones 4. Two years ago there was all sorts of excited babbling about the Indiana Jones 4 script being approved, and that was followed by Harrison Ford starring in Firewall – a thriller so dire that Ford livened up its promotion by only talking about Indiana Jones 4, declaring himself to be young and fit enough to play the character, even though he probably isn't.
And then came the news we'd all been waiting for – Indiana Jones 4 will be released next year. Nobody still has any idea about what the plot of Indiana Jones 4 will be about – if the movie follows reality it'll be set 19 years after Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade in 1957, where possible subjects could include Sputnik, the Asian flu pandemic of China or the invention of the frisbee – but at least a cast is slowly being built, with Cate Blanchett being the biggest rumoured name so far. CNN reports:
Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to star opposite Harrison Ford in the long-awaited fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" series, her publicist confirmed Saturday. "She is in negotiations, yes," publicist Lisa Kasteler told The Associated Press. She did not elaborate. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year, with Steven Spielberg on board to direct. The movie is being produced by "Star Wars" creator George Lucas' Lucasfilm Ltd.
On previous experience, Cate Blanchett can bring all sorts to Indiana Jones 4. Few actresses can rival her hatred of Botox, for example, so maybe that can be incorporated into the story. Failing that, an extended scene of Cate Blanchett punching out a zebra will do just fine.
But maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves here. Sean Connery still hasn't committed to Indiana Jones 4, and that potentially leaves the role of Indiana Jones' Dad to be cast. And who better to play a sexy old tumour-filled woman puncher than Cate Blanchett?
