Movie premieres are probably just about the most exciting places to go to watch some people in suits walk into a building, especially when it hasn't been too long since one of those people attempted suicide.
This made yesterday's premiere of Wes Anderson's new movie The Darjeeling Limited the most exciting place to be in the whole world, since it marked the first tentative step back into the limelight by Owen Wilson following his still-shocking suicide attempt in August. Although it's obviously a relief to have a talent like Owen Wilson return to physical and mental health so swiftly after what must have been an unendurable few months for him, it's probably wise that he doesn't put himself through anything too traumatic in the near future. Basically we really, really don't want Owen Wilson to make that dog-based romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston. For our sake as much as his.
These actors will do anything to get a bit of publicity for their premieres, won't they? Last week George Clooney fractured his rib in a motorbike accident right before the Michael Clayton premiere, but he's been topped by Owen Wilson who's used the Los Angeles premiere of his new film The Darjeeling Limited as his comeback following his suicide attempt in August. At this rate we fully expect to hear about Reese Witherspoon contracting some rare flesh-eating disease right before next week's Rendition premiere, but that's beside the point.
After his sudden-seeming wrist-slash suicide attempt, Owen Wilson originally asked for privacy – but it seems that a month spent recovering at home has recuperated him enough to attend the Los Angeles premiere of his new film The Darjeeling Limited. The Associated Press reports:
Sporting a shaggy blond beard and a dark jacket, it was among Wilson's first public appearances since a suicide attempt in late August. Wilson was joined by fellow cast mates Adrien Brody, Anjelica Huston, Jason Schwartzman and filmmaker Wes Anderson. Before the movie started, Anderson introduced Wilson, his longtime friend and collaborator, saying, "I've never made a movie without him and I hope I never have to."
We're sure the time will come where Owen Wilson will have to discuss his suicide attempt in public – possibly to confirm or deny reports that it was all Steve Coogan's fault – showing up to The Darjeeling Limited premiere is a decent enough first step. And, although we're sad to report that nobody thought to bolster Owen Wilson's confidence by boobyflashing him for old time's sake, this is hopefully a sign that we'll have Owen Wilson back at his best before too long. That bloody Dalai Lama has been getting too big for his boots in Owen's absence for a start.
