When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced earlier this week that they were holding a special post-wedding cocktail party for their LA friends who couldn't make it to Italy, most people assumed that Oprah Winfrey would be top of the invite list.
After all, of all the people who didn't attend the Tom Cruise/ Katie Holmes wedding, Oprah Winfrey was easily the most conspicuous; Oprah and Tom Cruise used to be great big buddies, and Tom told the world of his love for Katie Holmes on the Oprah Winfrey Show. But just as Oprah Winfrey revealed that she wasn't invited to the Tom Cruise/ Katie Holmes wedding, it's also being reported that Oprah has missed out on an invite to their post-wedding LA bash too. Not that Oprah is bitter about this highly public double-snub, though, and Monday's Everybody Gets A Garrote And Documentation About Tom Cruise's Whereabouts Over The Next Seven Days Oprah edition is just an unfortunate coincidence.
We all know that Oprah Winfrey is a people person – so long as the people aren't French shop assistants, that is. In the past Oprah Winfrey has let people deny engagements, let people rail against how the media deals with reporting international adoption law and – when she was feeling especially patronising – waved $1,000 in front of some poor people before snatching it away. But it could be argued that Oprah Winfrey has never done more for anyone than Tom Cruise.
A few years ago Tom Cruise was just known as the nice man with the ginger wife, but all that changed when Tom Cruise went on Oprah to declare his love for Katie Holmes by hopping on a sofa like a housewife who's just seen a mouse run across the carpet. That weird display of affection set off a chain of events which included Tom Cruise screaming about medicine on TV, Tom Cruise hiding his new baby away and ultimately Tom Cruise getting fired from Paramount by a frail old man convinced that all women hate him. In a way, it's like Oprah Winfrey is the sole reason why many people think that Tom Cruise is a bit of a tit.
But Tom Cruise isn't one to hold grudges – he even apologised to arch-enemy Brooke Shields for being weird and she got an invite to his wedding – so when Tom Cruise got married to Katie Holmes, we were surprised when Oprah Winfrey didn't get an invite. Oprah explained the snub away by saying that the giant Italian castle that Tom hired only had limited spaces, but it didn't seem to wash. After all, if you can invite semi-famous people like Jenny McCarthy and Victoria Beckham to your wedding, you should probably have room for Oprah Winfrey.
But, whatever the reason for Oprah Winfrey not getting an invite to Tom Cruise's wedding, at least Tom had the perfect opportunity to make up for his blunder by inviting her to his post-wedding LA cocktail party this weekend, for all his friends who couldn't get to Italy. Only – yup – Oprah Winfrey hasn't been invited to that either, her slaves told the New York Daily News.
But snubs like this cut both ways, and if Tom Cruise thinks he's getting an invite to, um, be interviewed of O Magazine's winter feature on psoriasis he can just bloody well forget about that too.

The party they’re giving now is for friends who couldn’t attend their wedding in Italy. The fact that Tom was at the Oprah Show doesn’t necessarily mean they must invite her to their wedding. By the way, I wouldn’t invite her either after the way she snubbed them! SHE didn’t stood by them when a lot of people were making fun of Tom’s couch-jumping. She made things worse by declaring she didn’t buy it, didn’t believe Tom truely loves Katie. Well I wouldn’t want anyone at my wedding that doesn’t believe in my love for my husband, too!
And Oprah didn’t say she wasn’t invited due to the fact that they invited a limited number of people. She just didn’t get invited. Well I can guess why! So I’m not surprised she didn’t get invited again. She could have supported Tom, and Katie, and by doing that shut everyone’s mouth. But no, she even put the whole event and her “I didn’t buy it” comment on her 20th Anniversary DVD! So that’s why she didn’t get invited. Good for you both Tom and Katie!
And inviting Brooke Shields: of course! They are friends! And friends can hurt each others feelings but when they make things right again, it’s all in the past. This with Mrs Winfrey isn’t because she still doesn’t support Tom and Katie!
