Far be it for us to suggest that everyone involved with country music couldn't be more charisma-free if they were made out of dust, but the fact that Kenny Chesney has now won three entertainer of the year prizes in a row sort of speaks for itself.
The Academy of Country Music had its awards last night, with all the usual country suspects gathering together for the annual knees-up – including performances by all the big country and western big-hitters, the doling out of prizes made out of roadkill speared on pitchforks and an epic tobacco-spittin' contest eventually won by Old Ma Billyroot after an impressive 32-foot spit. Oh, and Kenny Chesney won the ACM Entertainer of The Year award for the third year in a row. With good reason, too; camp men singing songs about sexy tractors is entertaining, right?
All that stuff we were saying in the first paragraph? We were just joking – the country and western scene is full of larger than life personalities. For example, we could tell you about the country singer who gets drunk and freaks out about websites, the country singer who strangles waitresses when they don't want to kiss him, the country singer who marries aggressive child molesters and the country singer who shoots men in the cheek when he becomes enraged.
Obviously these are all more 'terrifying' and 'disturbing' than 'entertaining', though – which is why the world of country music should thank its lucky stars for Kenny Chesney, who won the prestigious Entertainer Of The Year award at last night's ACM awards. CNN reports:
A subdued Chesney, wearing a black cowboy hat, accepted the top award, paying tribute to fellow musicians Keith Whitley and [George] Strait. "When I first started playing music, I was in college and I would go rent all my equipment and put it in the back of a pickup truck. The only thing I wanted to do was cut a record as good as Keith Whitley did, and I listened to that music over and over again," he said.
This now marks three straight years where Kenny Chesney has won the Entertainer Of The Year award at the AMCs, and it's plainly obvious why – Kenny Chesney just can't help but be entertaining. As much as we'd love to say that Kenny Chesney won these awards for his songs like From Hillbilly Heaven To Honky Tonk Hell, French Kissin' Life and Tequila Loves Me, we get the feeling that it's probably got more to do with his effed-up personal life. Kenny Chesney, you'll remember, is the man who married Renee Zellweger before she very quickly split up with him and called him a fraud, leaving Renee banging on about guns and Kenny trying to convince everyone that he isn't gay.
Of course, the ACM awards are about so much more than Kenny Chesney being told that not being able to marry Bridget Jones properly is kind of entertaining. All sorts of other country singers won ACM awards but we woudn't be able to pick any of them from a line-up, so we're not going to tell you who won what. If you're really interested in that kind of thing we're sure you've already heard the full ACM results through the CB radio you keep in your 18-wheeler anyway.

You guys are funny. The guy has made more $ in one night then you will in your entire lives. His tours show up on charts next to the Rolling Stones, U2, Springsteen, and others. He works his ass off for his fans.. have you ever been to a show? “God, country music is dull.” Go to one of his concerts and I guarantee you will not say that. He is so passionate and obsessed about his work. He’s shared stages with Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Joe Walsh, Ashanti, Peyton Manning, and countless others. This guy is not your typical “country” artist or show. He really has molded is own form of the music and shoved rock n roll into it. You’re right.. three times in a row does speak for itself. As does selling out venues in NON COUNTRY markets such as NYC, Seattle, and Detroit. Including selling out the New England Patriot’s Gilette NFL stadium three years in a row.. all under 15 minutes. What have you EVER done in your life comparable to that anything of the aforementioned? Over 25,000,000 albums sold. Giving out $14,000 bonus checks to his entire crew and band. The number of trucks and rigs in his tour is what rockstars dream of but most never reach. This guy and his show are something special. I dare you to spend some money and get a good seat from a broker for an event near you.. aren’t afraid you might.. enjoy yourself? Are you?

Country music, the music of pain (and boredom)

Country music acts are routinely the most successful touring acts, and look at the record sales. No one likes country? More like no one likes the crap ‘rock’ and ‘rap’ radio force down Yankee throats.
