Some things you can say about Jennifer Lopez and some things you can't – for instance, you probably can say that Jennifer Lopez is a humourless big-arsed moron; but you can't say that she's best friends with man who likes child porn and heroin.
Because if you do that – and you happen to live outside of America where it's easier to sue people for defamation – Jennifer Lopez will sue you. That's the case at the moment, as Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony are suing the British and Irish versions of the National Enquirer after it claimed that the couple were caught up in a 'heroin scandal' with photographer, heroin possessor and all round child porn collector Michael Star. By suing the National Enquirer, Jennifer Lopez is making it clear that she has had no dealings with Michael Star, and that any mention of a relationship between them are false.
But you're still legally OK to discuss her massive arse. Just so you know.
One of the best things about living in the UK is that the libel laws are crazy over here. In America you can more or less say what you want about anyone and it's up to them to prove you're lying. Here, though, the onus is on the defendant to prove that their claims are true. And stars like Britney Spears, Kate Hudson and Britney Spears are more than happy to exploit this loophole to sue the knickers off anyone they like in the UK.
And now the same can be said for Jennifer Lopez and her shit-bearded husband Marc Anthony. Lopez and Anthony are suing the British and Irish editions of the National Enquirer, along with the French and Northern Irish editions, over a story published last month claiming that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony had connections to Michael Star, a photographer caught up in a bunch of trouble regarding heroin possession and child porn. E! Online reports:
The article, accompanied by a 2004 picture of Star standing with Anthony, stated that Anthony and Lopez had been "caught up in a heroin scandal." The Enquirer also featured a quote from a supposed "friend" of Star's who said that the shutterbug and J.Lo's hubby are pals.Tweed said, however, that his client and Star do not even know each other, and that the two were photographed backstage at one of Anthony's concerts – just the singer posing for a snapshot with a fan.
So although it'd be legally dubious for us to suggest that Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez were good friends with Michael Star, it's probably within reason for us to guess that – thanks to the backstage photo – Michael Star likes really really dreadfully bad terrible music.
It's not a new thing for Jennifer Lopez to sue people – last year she sued her ex-husband for writing a book about her – but this latest possibly false article tops off a run of appalling Marc Anthony-related luck for Jennifer Lopez. Just last week Marc Anthony was outed as a tax-dodger and now he's fighting a connection to a man charged with heroin possession and child pornography.
Seriously, Jennifer Lopez never had this amount of trouble when she was going out with the man who could smack flames out of your ass.
