Angelina Jolie has been in India for quite some time now, and while she's been indulging in some of her interests like making films and being chased by photographers, Angelina Jolie hadn't done the thing most people thought she would.
It was always going to be a matter of time until Angelina Jolie realised that India was big and hot and full of desperately poor people and then decided to go and take a bit of a look around. Over the weekend Angelina Jolie toured a refugee camp in New Delhi as part of her role as a United Nations ambassador to see the conditions that refugees from Afghanistan and Burma live in on a day to day basis, and also to totally call dibs on all of the refugees children just in case Madonna got there first and started adopting them up before Angelina had a chance to work out which one looked the saddest.
When Angelina Jolie goes to a different country, she does so for one of two reasons. Either she wants to draw attention to the plight of a troubled nation like she did when she went to have Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in Namibia, or she just wants to make Brad Pitt complain about how cabbagey Paris smells for a laugh. But ever since Angelina Jolie has been in India filming her role in Daniel Pearl movie A Mighty Heart, we haven't seen any classic-era Angelia Jolie shenanigans.
Instead Angelina Jolie seemed to be going out of her way to use her trip to India as an excuse to piss people off. Angelina Jolie pissed off the paparazzi when one of her bodyguards appeared to choke a photographer, Angelina Jolie pissed off the locals when her car knocked a boy off his bike and Angelina Jolie pissed off most people in possession of common sense when she blacked up for her role in the movie. But you can't keep Angelina Jolie in a country for long before she starts getting antsy and screaming about refugees, and so that's what Angelina Jolie did at the weekend.
As part of her role as a lovely big UN-approved humanitarian, Angelina Jolie has been touring a refugee camp in New Delhi and speaking to Indian Junior Foreign Minister Anand Sharma about India's refugee policy, and giving statements about it like this one:
"I am grateful to the refugee families who spent time with me and shared their stories. They are remarkable, courageous people. The wonderful thing that I have learned since I have been in India is there are many needs for your own people and yet you have all been so gracious and been so open to many, many refugees over the years. Another important thing is always encouraging people from different parts of the world and different religions and cultures to maintain who they are and their own language."
Also Sharma didn't feel too lousy about having to spend a day with the woman from Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow instead of actually doing the stuff he probably gets paid to do, and said this:
"We discussed the Indian tradition and Mahatma Gandhi's principles of peace and non-violence, which continue to be very much relevant even today."
And, thanks to Angelina jolie mooching around and having a bit of a chat, all of India held a giant multi-million dollar We Heart Angelina Jolie party and the refugee crisis was never a problem ever again.
