Well, OK, not a stinking hippy per se – but Al Gore's son Al Gore III has pleaded guilty to marijuana possession, plus he cares about the environment and stuff, so he's only really a pair of sandals and a henna tattoo away from being a stinking hippy.
But the level of Al Gore III's hippydom isn't really the issue here – the issue is that Al Gore III has pleaded guilty to possession of drugs after he was caught driving at 100mph with all sorts of drugs in his car. A politician with a troublesome family member? This is just like an episode of Heroes, although we're not sure that Heroes desperately needs a character whose special power involves constantly being stoned and having an unusually bottom-heavy face.
Al Gore is so busy trying to save the world with Oscar-winning documentaries, ideologically-confused charity concerts and vaguely-worded pledge cards that the last thing he needs is to keep bailing his son out of drug arrests in between courses of almost-extinct Patagonian toothfish. But that's what keep happening.
Al Gore III, the pothead son of Al Gore, was arrested last month for speeding in a Prius on drugs. Police said that the inside of Al Gore's car smelt like marijuana when they stopped him, and they also found a load of unprescribed Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall in the car along with a small amount of marijuana. It's not the first time that Al Gore III has been arrested for marijuana possession – he was also busted for the same offence in 2003 while he was a Harvard student. And arrested for drink-driving in 2002 and charged with reckless driving in 2000.
But at least now Al Gore III has pleaded guilty for his indiscretions in court, as The Telegraph reports:
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to drug possession in a California court yesterday, but was told he could withdraw his plea – and eventually have all charges dropped – if he successfully completed a drugs course. Gore had asked his parents not to attend the hearing, but his lawyer said they had travelled to the state to support their son, and were helping him tackle his drug problems. "He's actually doing more than what other people do as far as treatment goes," Allan Stokke said. "He's got great family support."
So now Al Gore III will have to complete a drugs course and everything will be OK again forever. It's lucky that Al Gore III wasn't hit with a prison sentence, although we're sure that the inmates would have gone easy on the responsibility-free pot-smoking son of a rich boy politician who lists his current job as being an associate publisher for a magazine about youth philanthropy anyway, right?

Well, daddy Gore, will bail him out again! I am so sick of hearing these stories of spoiled-ass Rich Kids, whose famous Daddy’s bankroll their ass out of any kind of trouble they get into.
