Yesterday we made a pithy aside in an article about OJ Simpson's armed robbery arrest wondering when the Goldman family would try to make some money from the event – turns out the answer is 'less than a day'.
It's being reported that Fred Goldman is considering making a claim for the sports memorabilia that OJ Simpson was allegedly after when he apparently burst into Alfred Beardsley's hotel room with a gun and started yelling "You think you can steal my shit?" like a man who hasn't quite worked out how colonic irrigations work yet. But the Goldman family should think very carefully about wanting to see OJ Simpson in jail – after all, he's not going to earn very much money for them to claim in prison, is he? Unless of course they'd be interested in getting their hands on the minimum wage that OJ Simpson makes while being buggered in prison laundry by a deranged axe murderer which, come to think of it, they probably would.
OJ Simpson is a simple man with simple needs. All he wants is to write fictionalised accounts of gory real-life murders imagining himself as the killer and occasionally possibly bursting into hotel rooms with guns shouting that he wants his shit back. And people just keep on at him for it. Even though all he says he was doing was politely requesting some sports memorabilia which he claims belonged to him, OJ Simpson has been arrested for armed robbery and charged with two felony counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of conspiracy to commit burglary and one felony count of burglary with a firearm – which could see him get 30 years in jail for each robbery charge alone.
The ins and outs of the case are complicated enough as they are – the two men who OJ Simpson apparently robbed want to see the charges against him dropped, and police are still arresting men and recovering items of memorabilia all the time – but that hasn't stopped OJ Simpson's arch enemy Fred Goldman from getting in on the act, too.
Fred Goldman, father of murdered Ron Goldman, successfully took OJ Simpson to court after he was acquitted of murder and won $33.5 million in damages in a civil trial. It was Fred Goldman's hunger for this money that won him the rights to OJ's murder book If I Did It and saw it get published long after Rupert Murdoch decided to pulp all the copies because of the public outrage it created. But, now he's had a taste of OJ Simpson's money, Fred Goldman wants the lot – including the sports memorabilia that OJ Simpson was allegedly trying to steal, even though the police haven't managed to work out who it all belongs to yet. The Associated Press reports:
If the Goldman family has its way, it may soon own the sports memorabilia that O.J. Simpson is accused of committing armed robbery to recover for himself… On Tuesday, the family plans to file request in Superior Court to obtain ownership of the sports memorabilia seized. David Cook, an attorney for Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, said he believed Nevada authorities would turn over the items with a court order after Simpson's criminal case finishes. The items include Simpson's Hall of Fame certificate, a gold Rolex watch and the suit Simpson wore on the day he was acquitted, Cook said.
In a way, this is good news – there must still be a handful of people out there who weren't offended by the thought of Fred Goldman making money from a fictionalised account of his own son's murder, and hopefully the thought of Fred Goldman making money from the sale of the suit that OJ Simpson wore when he was standing trial for his son's murder will be enough to push them over the edge, too.
Also, if OJ Simpson does go to jail for these armed robbery charges, the knowledge that Fred Goldman is going to skim all the money from his future work will no doubt prevent OJ Simpson from penning his highly-anticipated prison diaries. And that's a real shame, because surely we can't be the only ones who wanted to read a book called If I Did Shiv A Nonce In The Ribs In The Dinner Queue When The Screw Ran Off To Break Up A Fight Between Barry The Arsonist And Stabby Bob, Here's How It Happened.

Goldman is not seeking profit as much as justice. The civil suit award has been negated by clever lawyering, creative accounting and money laundering. Goldman’s quest is to do what our “justice” system has failled to do. punish the guilty – civil suite ruling of course.
Jenny Rodriguez says
I think this article was written by someone who has never suffered the lost of a loved one by tragic circumstances. Mr. Heritage do you really believe that this
Mr. Goldman’s aim is to get rich? Are you that detached from reality? Mr. Goldman would return OJ Simpson’s money if he could have his son back. I am sure
Mr. Goldman wishes he’d never heard the name OJ Simpson. As a parent, I understand this obsessive hunger for JUSTICE that Mr. Goldman has never been
able to quench. Mr. Goldman will continue to hunt OJ for as long as he lives. He will never let him forget the name Ron Goldman. A name that was never
mentioned in this article. I hope Mr. Goldman remains a thorn in the side of OJ Simpson for as long they both live. In the end, the money will do nothing to
appease Mr. Goldman’s pain, but he lives each day knowing, OJ doesn’t get to enjoy the money either.

I think it would be fair to assume that Mr.Heritage has indeed never suffered a loss like the Goldman family’s. The arrogance of his position lies in the fact that he no doubt actually thinks he knows what that’s like. That’s a shame too because I think his writing is funnier than shit.
Adam Gade says
Erm, Jenny? Ron was mentioned, read it again. And I think the counterpoint to all this, “Aww Fred lost his son and only the sweet satisfaction of rolling around in O.J’s money will be a balm,” is that Fred Goldman is really only exacting economic revenge. And revenge probably isn’t the best way to go about this. I mean wouldn’t a better idea be put O.J. out of his life so the pain isn’t constantly there?
Decay says
To attribute Fred Goldman’s actions to a lust for money rather than an attempt to collect what he won in court is utterly ridiculous, I think. He was awarded millions for the wrongful death of his beloved son and more importantly he saw the killer go free. But do you think neither of those two facts are relevant? Instead you think a better explanation is that Fred Goldman is what, greedy, just trying to make a living off of someone else rather than his own work? What evidence do you have of Fred Goldman’s motivations? Could it be NONE?
I will admit that I don’t know what is inside the mind of Fred Goldman. I’d like to see you admit it too. Admit you are engaging in wild speculation and have opted to favor the less probable explanation; that Mr. Goldman doesn’t care that OJ was acquitted of killing his son (even though he believes OJ did it) as much as he just wants to make money.
Coles says
The bottom line is some folks out there want O.J. jailed for something that happened 12 years ago, nobody really cares about what’s happening now. When I read peoples here say O.J murdered Goldman’s son, I can’t belive it. He was found NOT GUILTY and you guys should remember that, The only thing Fred Goldman is doing now is making money on behalf of his son death, and that’s wrong.
Anna says
Fred Goldman is wasting his life away hating OJ. I feel sympathy for him because he lost a son and he shouldn’t let hate consume him for the rest of his life. No amount of money will bring back his son and I know that hurts. But, hating OJ will solve no problems & he shouldn’t be trying to capitalize off of his dead son. That is poor taste.
Oi says
Oh, OJ Simpson’s going down, all right. But not for robbery. He’ll be going down for double homicide which the original gits were too villainous to make stick the first time round. American Justice is when you keep drilling at a bloke ye dislike until he goes to hell.
I almost feel sorry for him.
