Dead Snow – DVD Review

dodsnocover2009-02-19_171311An idyllic wood cabin, surrounded by snow in the Norwegian mountains – sounds like the perfect postcard.

Add to that a group of ravaging, recently resurrected Nazi zombies, tearing students’ limbs off, painting the vast landscape a gloriously unsettling red and you’ve got Dead Snow.

Exclusive: Tommy Wirkola From Dead Snow’s Top 5 Horror Movies

DeadSnow7Tommy Wirkola is a new name for the horror genre but his audacious, hilarious and blood-splattered Norwegian Nazi zombie movie Dead Snow, shows that this is one director who has done his homework.

If the film isn’t making you laugh, cutting something in half or having intestine pulled out of one of the characters, then its winking at the audience with some reference to some of the best-loved horror masterpieces.

Tommy Wirkola has exclusively talked to us about his top five horror movies of all time, and as a list of definitive titles to watch, it’s hard to argue with. Enjoy…

DVD of the Week: In The Loop

In The Loop, DVD Review, Armando IannucciWhoever said that curse words were neither big nor clever had clearly never heard Peter Capaldi master a diatribe of censor-baiting expletives.

In The Loop was released on DVD this week and, although it may have a dirty mouth, it is one of the funniest British films of the decade.

Watch The Dead Snow DVD Trailer Now

dsNazi zombies are, for some inexplicable reasons, a relatively untapped area in the horror genre – but that’s all about to change.

Dead Snow is premiering at UK Frightfest on August 30th and hitting DVD and Blu-ray on August 31st, and it is one hell of a ride!

Picture the crisp Norwegian snow-capped mountains surrounded by beautiful forests and a cosy log cabin in the middle of it all. It’s a Christmas card image that would take centre place in any Granny’s mantelpiece. Now add to that a splash of red, a dollop of intestine and a scalped bonce to boot and…

Paul Blart: Mall Cop – DVD Review

Paul Blart: Mall Cop, DVD Review, Kevin JamesKevin James’ varied CV has thus far featured a wealth of memorable creations.

Bumbling fat-guy in King of Queens, bumbling fat-guy in Hitch and bumbling fat-guy in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry – there hasn’t been such a startling auteur with this much range since John Candy.

And like Candy (which James clearly does), Kevin manages to make what is an otherwise down on his luck cardboard cutout into a likeable chubby action hero – Paul Blart. This is silly fun, the kind that makes children laugh until they’re rolling around dribbling, while leaving adults to exclaim ‘meh’.

Cadillac Records – DVD Review

cadillacrecordsAdrian Brody has managed to dazzle many a woman with his modestly-sized schnoz, thereby blind-siding them so he can then attack their lips. It worked on Halle Berry and Naomi Watts – and now he is at it again with Beyonce Knowles!

The independent woman is at the acting game again, this time alongside Brody who plays Leonard Chess, founder of Chess Records. The film tells the story of the rise of Chess Records and its owner along with its first artist Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright). Other notable artists join the two in the studios, including; Chuck Berry (Mos Def), The Rolling…

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon – Blu-Ray Review

203389162Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon marked a new era in cinema, paving the way for a string of foreign, martial-arts epics.

With Crouching Tiger, Ang Lee ushered in a style in which Western audiences were not familiar and paved the way for other directors such as Zhang Yimou, whose Hero and House of Flying Daggers were among a stream of films that filled their screen time with as much lush cinematography as they did dazzling martial-arts.

The International – DVD Review

the-international-clive-owenFor a man who seemed disinterested in playing the suave spy James Bond, Clive Owen has seemingly decided to fill his CV with knock-off government agents ever since.

Which brings us to The International, a film that manages to pit Owen against a group of evil bankers (Watch out! They’ve got pens on chains!).

Owen plays hardened Interpol agent Louis Salinger, on the trail of a top bank with Naomi Watts‘ Assistant DA. both uncovering their dodgy dealings which are funding global terrorism. The film’s timing is somewhat unfortunate given the current climate (might as well kick the banks while they’re down)…
