Call us old fashioned, but the only way we'd even consider stalking Sandra Bullock was so that she refund the money we paid to watch rubbish like The Net, The Lake House and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed And Fabulous.
But, sadly, not everyone is identical to us. Sandra Bullock apparently really does have a stalker, and he seems to have more on his mind than a discussion on how he's going to get the two hours of his life he wasted on Practical Magic back. Luckily for Sandra Bullock, though, her stalker is currently locked away in a Tennessee mental health facility. Just to be on the safe side, though, Sandra Bullock is launching a lawsuit to ensure that she's informed should this man ever be released.
And, yes, we know what you're thinking. Sandra Bullock? A stalker? Really?
We have to admit that Sandra Bullock really struck out with her choice of stalker, and she should probably get onto her agent about it as fast as she can. John Cusack's stalker Emily Leatherman – who, incidentally, denies that she's John Cusack's stalker – never did anything more dangerous, or amusingly inventive, than fill bags with rocks and screwdrivers and love letters and hurl them into Cusack's garden. Colin Farrell, meanwhile, gets a telephone sex operative stalker who writes and publishes books about him and records songs about him being her bitch for her MySpace page. You know, the fun kind of stalker.
Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, seems to have been saddled with a genuinely quite frightening stalker that has actually left her badly shaken – shaken enough for Sandra Bullock to sue the Tennessee Department of Mental health to make sure that it informs her should her stalker be released from the mental health facility that he's currently shut away in, anyway. E! Online says:
The legal action, which seeks no monetary damages, was filed in Davidson County Circuit Court Sept. 13 and simply attempts to ensure the state complies with an earlier California court order stating Bullock be notified of the man's release. Thomas James Weldon IV voluntarily entered the state-run Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute in 2003, around the same time the Miss Congeniality star received a restraining order against her overzealous admirer. According to the 2003 court filing, Bullock claimed Weldon trailed her across several states, from Michigan to Texas to California, and inundated her with emails, faxes and phone calls.
Sandra Bullock and her stalker have never actually met, although – in addition to following her and her sister across America and emailing her a lot – he has apparently sent Sandra Bullock several gifts including a bottle of red nail varnish. As chilling as this sounds, it's not without its upsides, and the whole affair will soon be turned into a heartwarming romantic comedy called You've Got An Unmedicated Schizophrenic Stalker starring Sandra Bullock as herself and Hugh Grant as her charmingly bumbling stalker.
