Everyone knows you don't mess Nicolas Cage – the fire-headed star of Ghost Rider and the bee-fearing, woman-punching star of The Wicker Man – and that goes double if you break into his house naked and try to steal some of his clothes.
It's being reported that early on Tuesday morning Nicolas Cage personally took on a burglar he found in his home – a burglar who was completely naked except for one of Nicolas Cage's leather jackets. While the intruder – 45-year-old tailor Robert Furo – was removed from the house by Nicolas Cage without much fuss, then arrested and released after posting $50,000 bail, the incident goes to prove that the world can be a chillingly unsafe place sometimes. We can't even begin to imagine what a gut-wrenching shock it must be – or what sort of heart-pounding horror you must experience – to get naked and break into someone's house, only to find Nicholas Cage screaming you for wearing his leather jacket. Terrifying.
Nicolas Cage is a man not without his little quirks – like naming his son after Superman, for example, or starring in films that heavily rely on him dressing up as a bear, running up a hill and punching women in the face – but even Nicolas Cage has his limits. Sure, he may like starring in some of the most needless movies ever made, or appearing in Japanese TV commercials rolling his eyes around because he can see some triplets, but if you want to test Nicolas Cage, try breaking into his house naked and trying on one of his leather jackets. Just you effing try it – then you'll what what Nicolas Cage is like when he's um, politely escorting naked men out of his house.
When Nicolas Cage announced last year that he wanted to do less acting to concentrate on other disciplines, the discipline of confronting naked men who'd broken into his home to try on various pieces of Nicolas Cage-owned outerwear probably didn't feature too highly on his list. But thanks to 45-year-old naked burglar Robert Furo, all that changed early on Tuesday morning. BBC News reports:
A man has denied burglary after film actor Nicolas Cage confronted an intruder at his California home. Robert Dennis Furo was released on bail of $50,000 (£24,400) after pleading not guilty to the charge. Police called to Cage's home said he escorted the man outside after finding him standing near a bathroom wearing nothing but one of his leather jackets. Los Angeles police officer Lt Craig Fox said that Cage was upstairs with his son in the early hours of Tuesday morning when the intruder was reported. "He was standing there naked – except for the leather jacket," he said.
Although Robert Furo has pleaded not guilty to burglary, it seems like it'll be quite a difficult job for him to prove that he wasn't standing around naked in Nicolas Cage's house wearing only Nicolas Cage's jacket when Nicolas Cage saw him standing around naked wearing only one of his jackets and then escorted him out of his home where he was arrested.
Also, not much is known about Robert Furo, so his motives are still a little unclear. There's a chance that he's an Emily Leatherman-style obsessed fan who just wanted to be close to Nicolas Cage; or he might just be a man who, while innocently out on a stroll, suddenly realised he was naked and chose to duck into whichever house was nearest to him to try and preserve his modesty somewhat.
The smart money's on the latter, by the way. We're not sure anyone likes Nicolas Cage enough to actually want to stalk him.
