Life often takes you in unexpected directions right when you least expect it; look at Lane Garrison – one minute he's playing a minor role in a middling TV show, the next he's spending 90 days being psychiatrically tested in jail because he killed a boy.
Lane Garrison used to be most famous for being the ginger pickpocket from Prison Break who got shot. But all that changed the moment that Lane Garrison got drunk and crashed his car into a tree, killing a 17-year-old boy and injuring two 15-year-old girls. Now Lane Garrison has to spend 90 days in jail being assessed by psychiatrists about his suitability for probation, after which he'll either be released or be sentenced to the maximum six-year jail term. Then, and only then, will we be able to discover whether Lane Garrison drunkenly killing a boy in a car was 2,230 times more illegal than what Paris Hilton was banged up for, or only 3.92 times more illegal.
As much as celebrities have been getting in trouble recently for possessing the basic inability to use a car properly, there's a big difference between, say, driving around drunk with cocaine in your pockets and being a 26-year-old man who gets invited to a party by some teenagers he meets in a supermarket then drunkenly crashes the car into a tree killing a boy and injuring two girls.
But Lane Garrison probably knows that by now. Although Prison Break actor Lane Garrison was charged with manslaughter after crashing his car and killing his 17-year-old passenger Vahagn Setian back in March – and pleaded guilty to the charges in May – it's only now that he's been sentenced for it, as E! Online reports:
Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox ordered the 27-year-old actor sent to a California prison for 90 days Thursday while Fox mulls a final decision on the sentence to be imposed in the case. "We don't have all the information. I intend to remand Mr. Garrison today to the Department of Corrections for diagnostics," Fox said. While in custody, Garrison will be evaluated by prison staff and psychiatrists who will determine whether he is a suitable candidate for probation. If he is found suitable, he could be released at the end of the 90-day period.
It's unknown what form these psychiatric tests will take, although Lane Garrison must be hoping that a history of lying won't keep him in jail for the maximum six-year sentence; especially lies like saying that the boy who died was driving the car when it crashed – which Lane Garrison apparently did; or saying that you crashed because the single drink you had was spiked with GHB – when several witnesses saw you drinking vodka straight from the bottle before heading out to buy more alcohol.
But, hey, if the psychiatric tests involve a general knowledge quiz on what it's like playing a forgettable character in a TV show that isn't as good as Lost, then Garrison's as good as a free man.
