When Bill Bailey isn’t fearlessly reporting on bombs, he’s saying the word ‘badger’ and hoping we’ll laugh. Of course, there’s nothing funny about badgers. They’re disease riddled scum who peel the spines from hedgehogs just for a laugh.
Anyway, aside from various lazy Lord of the Rings jokes, he’s now turning his eye to the BBC and calling them names, despite the fact that they helped to make him a household name.
He’s accused Auntie of treating its stars with contempt after he was ?sidelined? from Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
Bailey is having a whine because he reckons that the corporation expected him to cancel his live work when they changed the recording dates of Buzzcocks.
After five years with the patchy pop quiz, Bailey missed three episodes of series 23 in late 2007, when he was replaced by Noel Fielding.
In an interview, Bailey said:
“I was basically sidelined from the show.”
“Buzzcocks normally records in October and the BBC moved the recordings forward two months and so it clashed with a lot of stuff I’d already booked. I’d had a tour of Australia, an orchestra tour and a West End run. They said, ?Could you just cancel them?”
“I thought, how utterly contemptuous do the BBC treat their artists? Thinking I’m sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. You’ve got to get on with things. How rude are you to just assume I’m going to knock these things on the head? I said, ?I can’t do it – I can’t cancel these shows?.
?They said, ?How many can you do??, and I could do seven or eight out of 12 or something and they said, ?Well that’s not enough?, and I said, ?Well there you go???
So, are we right in assuming that we won’t be seeing Bill Bailey on QI or Have I Got News For You again? If the BBC are that contemptuous, he won’t want anything to do with them, right?
Don’t hold your breath.

Good gracious! Does this mean that I’m not the only one who doesn’t find his twee “look at me I’m really a strange part human, part cute animal, part elf sort of comedian” persona hilariously funny?
