Usually when a writer leaves hecklerspray for pastures new, we stage a ritual burning of all their stuff and sculpt a crude voodoo doll in their likeness out of chewing gun and sawdust so we can jab dirty syringes into it while cackling in a fairly disturbing way.
Usually, but not always. And one of the exceptions is Mof Gimmers. You may remember Mof Gimmers for his genuinely offensive review of Quizmania or his obsession with giant penises, but since he left hecklerspray he's gone and done something phenomenal – he's started doing podcasts. Listening to the Gramofonica podcasts that Mof occasionally slings out is like accidentally tuning into the best radio station ever in the middle of the night; where deep reggae, red-raw garage, vat-aged soul and lost psych folk masterpieces nestle together to create one of the most joyous listening experiences we can remember. It'd probably be a bit more joyous if Mof learnt how to use his faders properly, but that aside, Mof's playing out of his skin.
We'll hold our hands up and admit that we missed the boat a little with Mof's podcasts – he's just released the third one – but the archives are easy to find and the first two are equally mindblowing. If the Mof Gimmers podcast doesn't cheer you the hell up, you're probably a bit dead inside. The Mof Gimmers podcast is effing blinding.
