Actor Tom Bosley, who you’ll know for his role as Mr Cunningham in long running ’70’s US sitcom Happy Days, has died at the age of 83. Sad times indeed. Round where hecklerspray grew up, he was more of a father to kids than their own dads were.
Of course, Bosley was more than Mr C, as he appeared in a number of shows including Route 66, The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote and That ’70s Show. However, it’s his stint as Richie Cunningham’s dad in Happy Days for which he will be most fondly remembered.
He died of heart failure at a hospital near his home in Palm Springs, and with that, let’s look at some of the best moments from Happy Days.
It seems a little bit perverse to have a round-up of Fonzie’s best moments when we’re celebrating Tom Bosley’s life, but the simple fact of the matter is, is that there isn’t much in the way of clips on YouTube. We would have loved to have done a round-up of Bosley’s various eye-rolls and smart-alec jabs at Richie & Co.
And so, let’s look at some of Arthur Fonzerelli’s finest moments. Of course, we’ve missed loads of them out, but feel free to include them in the comments!
Mrs C Tells Fonzie To ‘Sit On It’
Not many people can get away with giving The Fonz’ cheek, but Mrs C could always get away with murder. This clip shows Happy Days in full flow.
Fonz’ Jumps The Shark
An infamous clip that has given a term to the whole of television. Basically, this is held up as an attention seeking stunt to help an ailing show. Although, in the case of Happy Days, it ran for years after this event with massive viewing figures, so perhaps the allegory is a little unkind in this case.
Fonzie Meets Mork
Okay, okay. This is actually from a spin-off show, but there’ll be a few readers who aren’t aware of the fact that Mork & Mindy was a Happy Days spin-off show. Now, did we dream the sequence where Fonzie and Mork fight and the alien slows time down to beat him up? Please answer this question. Our collective sanity might just depend on it.
Fonzie displays his super duperness
Just… just… great.
Fonz’ Fights Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks appears dressed as Ryu in a clip that shows how funny Happy Days could be. There’s a lot of great moments in this scene. We like the bit that involves the sandwich.
Fonzie Rides The Bull
You thought jumping over a shark was desperate? This came later and, yes, it is quite obviously crap… it’s still kinda ace because, y’know, it has The Fonz riding a bull AND Richie bullfighting!
Fonzie Sings Heartbreak Hotel
Fonzie performs Elvis’ ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and almost turns it into beat poetry. Bafflingly daft and brilliant TV!
‘Do The Fonzie’ with Leather Tuscadero
Suzi Quatro is amazing. Therefore, she has to appear in any Happy Days list. Here, she sings a song about a new dance which, luckily for us, Fonz’ is more than ready to show-off for us all.
Fonzie Ends Segregation
No more needs to be said.
The Fonz’ Sells Out
Oooh. Fonzie tells us school is cool… IN A DRESS!
Tom J says
Tom Bosley dies and we get an article about the Fonz. That’s just how cool the Fonz is. Even Tom Bosley would approve.
Joey says
If Tom Bosley died, why would you put all these clips of the Fonz and not Mr. C?
Mof Gimmers says
A lesson in reading.

Larry says
Umm…..what? Didn’t Mr C pass away? Why are we showing the Fonz moments? I’m confused.

Wake up Larry

My favorite Mr. C moment was when Richie almost won the basketball game. Mr. C walked the hall to the locker room with Richie and offered him a “Life Saver”. To this day I give out Life Savers to anyone having a bad moment.
Sarah says
Why, why, why Fonzie?????? Tom Bosley died and guess what? He did more things besides Sappy Days!
cd says
Joey needs to learn how to read
JoeMomma says
I think Tom Bosley also did the voice for this weird 70’s cartoon called “Wait ’till your father gets home”. Loved that one.

These s0-called ‘reporters’ really should have said something, as an explanation, in the posting. I salute your reading comprehension, Sarah. You may be mildly, or massively, retarded, but that’s just by-the-by. Please accept a drool-catcher as a gift of our (meaning, the world at large) appreciation. Look just below you, and it is there. Follow the drool Sarah, follow the drool!
Speaking of drool, are you an MJ fan, by chance?
I have a new favourite word. I’m drooling it now… drool. Rolls off the tongue, duznit? Droooool. What was I talking about? Damn, I’m hungry.
Jono says
Geeez, some of you folk just don’t understand the point of HecklerSpray do ya!
But it’s entirely possible you come from the ‘now’ generation that don’t bother reading anything and skip straight to the video so I take pity on you.

How can Fonzie jumping the garbage cans on his bike not be one of his top moments??
