Hecklerspray has been busy working on the script for possibly the most faithful comic book adaptation ever made – an all-action, big-budget blockbuster version of Daily Mail favourite Love Is…, in which Man (Jake Gyllenhall) and Woman (Jessica Alba) engage in all sorts of preachy sentimental hijinks.
It's gonna be huge. But – until then – if you do want to see an entirely accurate strip-to-flick transition, your best bet would be to go and hire out Robert Rodriguez's 2005 Sin City. Enjoy the movie while it lasts, though – because chances are there isn't going to be a follow-up.
Surprised? Don't be. Sin City 2 was pretty much all ready to go, until Rodriguez went and buggered things up via his involvement with godawful post-modern mishmash Grindhouse – a film all with the wit, intelligence and charm of a Friday night in Wetherspoons. In Walthamstow town centre. While the football's on.
Grindhouse hasn't been released in Britain yet, and – when it is – rumours abound that the distributors are going to make it even more pointless by releasing the two parts (Rodriguez's utterly redundant Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's career-worst Death Proof) separately. You'll probably be tempted to see them, no matter how much hecklerspray pleads otherwise. Just don't say we didn't warn you.
Anyway. The reason that Grindhouse has upset plans for Sin City 2? Because it performed so bloody rubbish at the US box office, that's why – costing $53 million to produce and dredging in a woeful $11.5 million opening weekend. Which means that we could be denied the chance to see more wonderful Frank Miller noir-tinged action – all because Tarantino wanted to bore the pants off us with at least 40 minutes of needless dialogue from his female 'characters' ("no, seriously, man! I met a girl once and she, like, totally spoke like this!").
The Sin City 2 jeopardy was highlighted by actor Michael Madsen, who said:
"I haven't seen the script for 'Sin City 2'. I don't know if they are gonna make it. I hope they do. And if and when they do, I will be in it. They haven't shot it yet. I don't know if they ever will. I am not sure (about) the franchise. I think the 'Grindhouse' thing didn't kind of work out. The only reason I did it ('Sin City') was because Robert Rodriguez said that if I took that little part I would get a bigger role in the sequel, that Bob would have more to do in the sequel. So I said, 'Okay, fine'."
Bizarrely, though, it seems that a Grindhouse sequel is being actively mooted by its makers. Tarantino is interested in directing 'an old-school Kung Fu movie in Mandarin with subtitles in some countries'.
Oh, for Christ's sake. Sounds awful to these ears … but then what does hecklerspray know? We're still trying to convince everyone that Jackie Brown was actually the Quenster's best film, and that Reservoir Dogs is actually – gasp – a little bit boring (watch them again. Go on. Do it).
Suppose we should be thankful for small mercies, though. At least The Faculty 2 or Kill Bill Parts 3 And 4 haven't seen the light of day.
Yet.

Personally, I thought Sin City was shite. Having sat through the execrable Paradise Lost yesterday, I am inclined to wait till Grindhouse is on the TV. Or, just turn the TV on, as one of the films Tarantino plagiarised thisparticular abortion for is bound to be on, so I can watch that instead. That man needs to be taken away and quietly disposed of.

Yeah..if you actually check your argument before you preach about sin city 2 not happening you would know that it is only delayed. Frank Miller is quoted as saying that him and Robert will be filming the sequel after he directs an adaptation of “spirit” and Robert does the remake of “Barbarella.” As for Grindhouse, it didn’t make money because of the poor release date, bad advertising, and for the fact that it is a culty type of genre. The movies were amazing! They were a wonderful homage to B-cinema. And both were well recieved by American critics. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

How terrible! Movie critics are the absolute worst cynics alive. Kill Bills 1&2 were both good, Resevoir Dogs rules, and Tarantino is one of the most brilliant filmmakers ever. Just because Mandarin w/ subtitles sounds bad to you, doesn’t mean everybody will dislike it. Tarantino himself is a fan or the more obscure, cult classic movies, and well made Kung Fu flick will be exactly that. Only one of these responses have been in your favor. The two others agree with me. You have no business being a movie critic. Go throw on Gigli (or whatever it was called) because it’s probably your favorite movie. I wonder what tarantino did to piss you off so bad…deny you an autograph!?
