You remember Pink, don’t you? She’s that girl who made an entire album about the tragic heartbreak of how rubbish her parents are. But happiness is on the horizon for Pink – she got married at the weekend.
Pink married motocross rider Carey Hart on Saturday on a beach in Costa Rica. Maybe now that she’s married, we can expect some kind of Pink concept album about the tragic heartbreak of having some shelves needing to be put up. Or something.
Pink (CDs) – real name Alecia Moore – recently hit the headlines for saying some bad things about George W Bush, something that would be terribly controversial and rebellious if not for the fact that she is literally the last person in the world to have said something bad about him.
Even something as simple as normally getting married to a man who rides a motorbike for a living is a bit too square for Pink. She and Carey Hart got married on Saturday but Pink being the rebel that she is, didn’t get married in a church like your rules tell her to. Instead, she got married – get this – on a beach. While we try to put our blown minds back in order, read what People magazine had so say on the wedding:
More than 100 guests (including Lisa Marie Presley) attended the
non-denominational ceremony, which was held on the beach during sunset
at the Four Seasons resort and performed by a local officiant. "We just
love the beach, so we knew we wanted it to be at the beach."
See? Pink doesn’t care about boring conventions that your patriarchal suit-and-tie society try and foist upon her – conventions like, um, not getting married at a really posh hotel in a tropical country. And she’s happy to tell you:
"We wanted it very fun and non-traditional. We’re spiritual, but we’re
not religious. It was about being with our closest friends and family
and having a very fun and loose party."
Even the engagement was an act of fierce rebellion and shunning of anachronistic traditions. It was Pink that proposed to Hart. That’s right – the girl proposed to the boy! Wow, that Pink sure is one crazy rebel!
Now to see if Pink is able to shun the celebrity tradition of getting divorced with two years of marriage.

Now take the word pink. It must be the most abused word in the English language.
It’s a colour it is and it belongs to girls more then boys in the same way blue is a boys colour.
No way would girls be wanting to take blue and say its a girls colour.
Its always been that way.
Colours mean a lot more then some people realise and they deserve respect and understanding.
People calling themselves a colour and trying to muck up the meaning of colours is wrong. It’s dangerous stuff – like calling a black fella a coconut is pretty insulting.
It’s enough to make a girl feel blue.

My best and most heartfelt wishes to Alecia and Carey. I hope they have, and will always, the true love that many others have felt but failed at. I wish them success in both of their careers, and they they are in love with each other 50 years from today, as they are now. If it is their desire, I pray that they are blessed with as many children as they desire, and that those kids grow up and totally love their parents for who they are; Mommy and Daddy, and not what they are!

Actually, Kathryn, it has *not* always been that way. Right up until the early years of the twentieth century, the standard was “pink for boys, blue for girls”. If you saw a baby dressed in blue, you knew she was a girl. If you saw a baby in pink, you could be certain he was a boy. If you go to an art museum and look at 18th and 19th century portraits, you’ll quite often see men wearing pink shirts. The flip-flop in color which assigned pink to girls was one of the many changes which occurred after World War I.
