There was a time when Phil Spector was known as pioneer of exciting, innovative, sophisticated pop music, but now Phil Spector is just that bloke with mental hair that might have killed an actress.
The murder trial of Phil Spector, accused of killing Lana Clarkson with a gun, has been a long time coming – Clarkson died in February 2003 – and the trial has just had another setback. Due to scheduling commitments by the prosecutors, Phil Spector will now stand trial in September.
Phil Spector (CDs) was once a true innovator in pop music, giving the world his trademark Wall Of Sound via artists such as The Ronettes, The Crystals, Tina Turner, The Beatles, Dion, The Ramones and, er, Starsailor. Unfortunately, it's also thought that Phil Spector shot and killed actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.
Phil Spector was due to take the stand in the murder trial next month, but the busy prosecutors are expected to still be trying to nail another alleged murderer, while Spector's attorney will be involved in a Federal trial that looks likely to over-run. And that is the reason why Phil Spector turned up in a Los Angeles court yesterday to give his consent to the trial being postponed until September.
The charges of murder are being denied by Phil Spector, who is currently free on a $1 million bail. Instead, he claims that Lana Clarkson was drunk, then "kissed the gun," before shooting herself. However, a police officer claims to have overheard Phil Spector saying that he didn't mean to kill Clarkson – a statement which Spector's lawyers wanted thrown out of court, since Phil was apparently experiencing withdrawal from his medications. A judge later ruled that, since the comment was made voluntarily, it will able to be referenced in the murder trial.
If found guilty of murder, Phil Spector faces life in prison. So he should probably get his hair looked at before the trial opens.

For the best book on the Ramones read,
“On The Road With The Ramones”
http://www.ontheroadwiththeramones.com
This is a MUST-HAVE book for all Ramones fans. It’s an inside look from the people who were actually there witnessing and experiencing all the extreme highs and lows of one of rock’s greatest bands. The Ramones’ music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days at CBGB’s in the ’70s to their farewell gigs in 1996. Filled with memorabilia including photographs and interviews collected along the way, this is his view of life on the road with the band as “baby-sitter to psychiatrist, booking agent to travel agent, paymaster to van driver.” It’s such a fascinating read, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Buy it, read it, and then revisit their albums. You’ll never look at the Ramones in the same light.
