A judge has told Pete Doherty that he has been doing "quite well," in his fight to quit drugs – even though he failed two drugs tests last month and has been arrested twice in the last few weeks.
That’s doing "quite well"? If we’re to apply those standards to everything else Pete Doherty has ever done, Down In Albion is a gold-plated masterpiece and not the wishy-washy halfarsed nitwit demo that it actually really is.
Pete Doherty (DVDs) is in and out of court so much these days that he may
as well set up a little tent and live there. In fact, Pete Doherty is
in court so often that it’s getting confusing trying to figure out why
he’s there in the first place. This year alone, Pete’s been arrested –
but not charged – on suspicion of stealing a car
and driving it to Birmingham, plus he was yesterday charged on seven
counts of drugs possession. He’s in court for that one tomorrow.
Today, though, none of that mattered, as Pete Doherty was in court for a review of his
sentence for possessing hard drugs, as part of his original
sentencing for possession of drugs on February 8. Back then, Pete escaped jail
and was sentenced to complete a 12-month community order and take a
12-month drugs rehabilitation course complete with monthly drugs test.
And the review went well, despite all that other shit he seems to keep
getting himself into. CNN reports:
The Babyshambles singer appeared restless during his brief court
appearance Wednesday morning and, while listening to [Judge Jane] McIvor’s
instructions, frequently placed his hands behind his head and moved
around in apparent frustration. McIvor did offer Doherty good news,
however — calling his improvement "remarkable" and adding that his
"determination is increasing." Outside court, Doherty’s attorney,
Sean Curran, said the rocker had tested positive for drugs on February
23 and February 28. Curran gave no details of the tests.
So it doesn’t look as if quitting drugs is going as easily as Pete Doherty would like. Not that he’s letting it affect his spirit. When asked by a reporter outside of court if he was now going to quit using hard drugs, Doherty reportedly replied:
"What? Them? Sure, I’ll do that."
