Some people – god bless ’em – are born without that all-important ‘stay-away-from-danger’ gene. And none of these fools are more entertaining than crazy animal-handler Steve Irwin.
Irwin is, of course, famous for doddering around with a camera crew in tow, picking up strange slithery beasts that look like they might bite him and poking sticks at them (with a big wild-eyed expression as he does so). This is – bizarrely – gripping television of the highest order. Kind of like David Attenborough meets a five-year-old child on a Sunny Delight binge.
Recently, however, the manic TV exploits of Stevie-boy have found themselves crossing over into reality…
Harbor City, California, has a problem. There’s a crocodile loose. A big one. It was apparently released by a couple of ‘pranksters‘ – although hecklerspray remains confused as to quite how letting a vicious man-eating predator free to roam the streets classifies as a prank. We got in trouble once for putting a whoopee cushion on a friend’s seat during primary school assembly and – in comparison – that seems like nothing.
Anyway – the authorities have done the only thing they can. They’ve called in Steve Irwin (DVDs). Which is bad news for the croc… but surely even worse news for the town residents who are going to woken every morning by a mad Australian bloke scrabbling around their back garden looking for "a trail."
Reggie – yes, that’s the beast’s name – hasn’t been seen for three months, but Steve Irwin remains adamant that the sneaky fella is simply hibernating, only to re-emerge in the spring (adopts gravelly trailer-voice) "hungrier than ever."
Is Steve taking a camera crew along on his quest? You bet he is.
And will hecklerspray be watching the show when it airs? Take a wild guess, friends …

My condolences to the family. I will always remember him and remeber that he made Animal Planet the famous cable channel here in the USA. Without Mr. Irwin we would have no Animal Planet.
