The start of a new year is always full of some amount of trepidation about what unknown tangents the future will bring. Then a rapper gets shot and you realise that this year will be just the same.
This time it was Eminem‘s pal Obie Trice who was shot as was driving his car through Detroit. Police are now seeking witnesses to the shooting. Or anyone who still listens to and enjoys his 2003 album Cheers. Whichever there are more of.
Whatever year it is, you can always assume that some rappers will end up getting shot. 2005 saw Cam’ron get shot in a carjacking and Suge Knight possibly shooting himself in the leg at a party. And – just sneaking onto the list in the dying hours of the year – comes Obie Trice (CDs). According to CNN:
Someone in another car shot through the back window of 28-year-old
Trice’s vehicle as he drove along the Lodge Freeway around 1:10 a.m.,
said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzales. The Detroit
native managed to continue driving and got off the freeway in the
suburb of Southfield, where his girlfriend, also in the vehicle,
flagged down police, Gonzales said. The girlfriend wasn’t wounded.
Reports suggest that the only injury Trice sustained was a grazed
head, and he was taken to Providence Hospital where he was treated and
released. Sgt Gonzales added:
"We have no suspects, and we don’t have any information on the other
vehicle. We’re
hoping that someone who saw what happened can provide us with
information."
While, touchingly, the Obie Trice’s granny has also spoken of the shooting to Detroit News Sunday:
"He’s doing fine. He’s pretty much back to his normal self… He’s a shy person. He’s decided he doesn’t want to say anything about it."

I saw Obie Trice do a show in Las Vegas about two years ago. He was a total idiot. Some young kid (15 maybe) reached up and tried to grab Obie’s bottle of Covvasierre (some booze – spelled wrong here) to which Obie responded with a thumping cross to the kids head with his microphone. He then jumped into the crowd and proceeded to beat the litte kid up. Joker deserved a bullet.
You as the writer of this article was very ignorant. And where did you go to school? How much did you pay for his wonderful education? Imagine if people hated journalist so much that they started shooting at them on the freeway. Last year we had 15 journalist shot, and someone writes about it as though it was funny. Makes sense uh?

Leo, the fact is, in the hip-hop culture we learn growing up that police only make things worse. We don’t refuse to flag down cops because it downs some stupid cred or some, we do it because 9 times out of 10, the cops will just make everything twice as worse. Policemen have never been anything but a nuisance to me and every one I live around. I have a friend who was in his crib when the whole block was set on fire, and he got burned, and pretty much the same thing happened to the guy in the next apartment over. My friend called a few of his friends, and they rolled up, got him out, and got him to the hospital in about 7 minutes. The other idiot called the police. After half an hour, the boys in blue turned up, and arrested him as the arsonist.
We do have reasons for behaving like we do Leo, and maybe you should think of not talking about something you know nothing about. Leave that to those who do.
