Bad news for all you fans of watching ultra-smug lifestyle haircut sitcoms from the nineties – Friends won’t be returning to your TV screens, according to NBC. Not just yet, at least.
Yesterday, rumours spread that the entire cast of Friends had signed up to reprise their characters for stacks and stacks of money a handful of one-hour specials. But just as soon as the rumours started, NBC shot them all down. Will that stop us telling you about it? What do you think?
There were several reports over the last few days that the cast of
Friends (DVDs) were to reunite for four one-hour specials, with some reports
even suggesting that scripts for the Friends specials had been written.
On the one hand, the reunion rumours seemed a little far-fetched –
after all, it’s only been less than two years since the last series of
Friends ended. But on the other hand, it’s not like the cast of Friends
have really had a great deal of success outside of the show.
Jennifer Aniston is undoubtedly the biggest star to come out of Friends, but this is more to do with her screaming at the sea after her Brad Pitt split and then being photographed topless
than starring in any decent films. Lisa Kudrow tried to make an edgy
sitcom called The Comeback, which seemed to confuse ‘edgy’ with
‘unfunny’ – the show was axed.
Courtney Cox has been mainly silent since Friends, popping up now and
again to produce – of all things – a Daisy Donovan series.
The Friends boys haven’t done too much better, either. David Schwimmer
we kind of like, because he was in Curb Your Enthusiasm for a while and
did some "I’m a proper actor, me," theatre work. Matthew Perry has
actually disappeared up his own arse, and then there’s Matt LeBlanc.
He’s stuck with Joey, the poor guy.
So a Friends reunion doesn’t seem too outlandish at all. Not that it’ll
happen, though. When the reunion rumours kicked off, Jeff Zucker – CEO
of NBC Universal Television Group, no less – was there to shoot the
whole shebang down, telling Access Hollywood:
"Not one ounce of truth."
Ach. While he was there, Zucker also decided to deflate the hopes of
people who thought that David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc
were going to team up for a new sitcom called It’s A Guy Thing.
Thankfully.

I really wanted Friends to come back! :'(. I do however, believe that they are making a film. Madonna is even planned to make the theme tune, the classic “I’ll Be There For You.”. So fingers crossed.

Uh… what happened to Joey? Did he get dumped?

i think that nbc is lying. there are too many rumors going around for it to be false. i miss friends so much. i hope it comes back.

From what I hear, Joey was dumped! =( I found the show very funny and watched it weekly! But ofcourse, it wasn’t Friends! I don’t think there will ever be a sitcom as good as Friends was. I’m a huge Will and Grace fan, but Friends was always my favorite and I never miss a show on TBS! A Friends reunion would be awesome though! But I heard Jennifer Aniston doesn’t want to do a reunion because she doesn’t want to be known as Racheal Green anymore. Ofcourse these are all rumors so don’t believe what i’m saying unless NBC or Jennifer says it herself. I can see why she wouldn’t want to go back because she has made a wonderful life for herself since Friends went off the air. She’s on every cover of every magazine it seems, and is also starrng in tons of new movies! Good for her! And as for Daisey does America…that has seemed to stop airing on TBS. I believe it only lasted a month? Anyways, again, these are all rumors i’ve heard so don’t believe everything you hear unless the actors themself or NBC say so.
To all the old Friends gang.. You have given me years and years of laughs and wonderful memories! Your all very wonderful people as well as actors and I do miss seeing you all together. A come back or reunion would be so cool in my opinion, but ofcourse, that is up to the six of you and NBC! Whatever happens though, you all will forever be my favorite’s and i’ll always be one of your biggest fans!!!
Love and miss you all!
