I’ve reported a lot of tragic celebrity deaths over the past five years, and it never gets easier. This one is especially hard, given that the celebrity this time was so young. Rapper Mac Miller has died at the age of 26.
TMZ, who were the first to report Miller’s death, are saying that he died of a drug overdose.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to Miller’s San Fernando Valley home at 11am and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death was caused by an apparent overdose.
Miller had been having a particularly shitty year: first his two-year relationship with Ariana Grande came to an end allegedly because of his toxic behavior, and shortly afterwards he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence when he hit a utility pole with his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon.
Miller, much like Demi Lovato who also overdosed this year, has been open about his struggles with addiction, however, unlike Lovato, he won’t have a chance to recover this time.
My blogs are supposed to be 300 words, but I always find it really hard pushing death announcements to 300 words, because I sort of just want to state the facts and leave it be. There aren’t any jokes or tangents for me to go on here, you know? Seeing young people lose their lives to drugs is fucking tragic, and it’s not a new thing. I don’t know how to stop it or what to say when it happens, but somehow I always end up thinking of River Phoenix. Maybe because he was the first celebrity that my mom was like “Yeah, this kid died of a drug overdose” and I was fucking DEVASTATED.
Anyway, my thoughts are with Mac’s family and loved one. There are no words.
