Oh yes, he did.?Lil’ Wayne?stomped repeatedly on an American flag. But before you get all judgy about it, you should know that he meant no disrespect. He didn’t mean to “desecrate the flag of the United States of America” …?he was simply?filming a new music video. And sometimes … in the pursuit of true art … treasonous shit happens.
Earlier today, some unfortunate video footage popped up on the Internet showing Wayne shooting the video for the song “God Bless Amerika” from his newest album.?The video shows Weezy performing outdoors in front of a huge American?flag, which drops down to show a crowd of people. (It’s symbolism, y’all … those people hanging out behind the flag are Amerika, with a K.)
The problem is that after the flag drops to the ground, Wayne?stomps around?on top of it.
Wayne does appear to regret the incident, posting a perfectly plausible explanation on his Facebook page in which he clarified that he was performing for the camera set up in front of him, not the side-angle one that shot the offensive video. Properly edited and from the correct angle,?viewers would not have seen the flag being trampled at his feet.
But the viewers did see it.?Even if it wasn’t intended to be seen, it still happened and?it’s just disrespectful. Wayne and his production crew ought to have come up with another scheme for getting that shot. Because he was blatantly trampling on the flag. And people get pissed about that kind of thing.

The explanation Wayne offered truly seems reasonable … until you weigh in two small things. First, the lyrics to the actual song, which don’t necessarily give one the impression that he’s a big-time patriot.
“My country ’tis of thee/ sweet land of kill ’em all and let ’em die/ God bless Amerika/ This so godless Amerika ? the stars on the flag are never shining.”
In any case, he certainly has a right to his voice … but it does dampen his defense somewhat.
Second, why didn’t he apologize? Just say sorry and it’s over.?The trillions of people who are furious about this would be placated. Just lose that belligerent attitude for a minute, own up to bad decision, and all is forgiven.
