SupergroupSometimes surveys just aren’t worth the bother.

For instance, when a radio station decided to find the ideal imaginary rock supergroup, they must have expected the final line-up to be a mixture of members from all kinds of fantastic bands.

But no. The listeners of Planet Rock Radio instead decided that the greatest-ever fantasy supergroup is Led Zeppelin. All of them. Together.

In a poll of 3,500 listeners John Bonham was voted the best-ever drummer, John Paul Jones was voted the best bassist, Jimmy Page the best guitarist and Robert Plant the best singer.

The outcome isn’t entirely unexpected. The name of the station that commissioned the poll was, after all, Planet Rock. We’re firmly in leather trousers/bald on top with a ponytail territory here, folks.

They seem to be forgetting that Led Zeppelin (CDs) were a dreadfully wanky bunch of pretend-spiritual self important musicians with a singer that sounded like an angry little witch.

So who would comprise the real best ever supergroup? Leave your suggestions below.

Note to readers: not all members of the HS editorial team share the view about Led Zep. The writer will be force-fed a diet of Living Loving Maid for two weeks in a secluded location this November.

Vote for who you think should be in the UK Supergroup and the USA Supergroup as they compete in a charity battle of the bands reality TV show concept at http://supergroup.netfirms.com
For example, which Supergroup would win?
    UK Supergroup:
    Paul McCartney - bass
    Eric Clapton - lead guitar
    Pete Townshend - rhythm guitar
    Phil Collins - drums
    Elton John - piano
    Steve Winwood - keys
    vs
    USA Supergroup:
    Bruce Springsteen - guitar
Eddie Van Halen - lead guitar
    Billie Joe Armstrong - guitar
    Flea - bass
    Dave Grohl - drums
    Stevie Wonder - keys

ROD STEWART is the only element necessary for a supergroup. Perhaps you could add Phil COllins into the mix. SO I guess it would be a superduo. Called “Stewart and Collins”.

  6. Bob Stevens Says:

    Led Zeppelin

So you’re basically taking another poll because you don’t agree with the results of the first one? Alrighty then. I will leave my suggestion.

    Bass - John Paul Jones
    Guitar - James Patrick Page
Drums - John Henry “Bonzo” Bonham
    Vocals - Robert Anthony Plant

    Can’t beat that.

I thought about putting Flea on bass, but I don’t think his style would meld too well with the other musicians’. And JPJ just does an extraordinary job with Bonzo. So, I will leave you with this.

    Honorable mention:
    Flea

I think you are stupid for re-taking the poll because you weren’t happy with the people that were chosen.
hey man, face reality, you SUCK

  10. The-WaLruS Says:

Yea, Led-Zeppelin is by far the best contender for being a supergroup. If your not down with Zep, You need to learn what music is.

I’ve been his fan every since he started and I got a chance to go to one of his concert in Tulsa about a couple of years ago and I believe he still is the best
ever and always will be and I’m 59 years old now and that was the first time to ever go to one of his concerts and believe me he’s great.

You’re an idiot. You can’t hate them because of their lyrics or “fake-spirituality” whatever that means, but you can’t deny they are some of the best musicians ever. I can’t even believe the blasphemy you’re spouting. By the way they are about 10 times better live and probably 100 times better than your favorite band. I don’t know a serious music fan that doesn’t at least like them, let alone love them. You probably can’t even name all their albums or half them without looking them up. Let the LED out and Get some education.

Here’s a list of drummer that could all contend: John Henry “Bonzo” Bonham my favorite because no one could play as hard or as fast for that long, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, and Paul “Mitch” Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Guitarists hmm well all the guitarists for the yard birds and Jimmy Page is one of them. B.B. KIng, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimi Hendrix

Bassits: Flea, Sir John Paul Jones mostly because he’s more of a kellar williams than anything. Who else palys madolin and organs soo money.

Singer: Robert Plant, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon.

I meant you say you can please forgive my grammar, I was pissed.
