If Lady Gaga can be relied on for anything, it’s making an obscure artistic statement through the medium of insanely good dance tracks and shoes that are so high they’d make a drag queen weep.?
Having her hip sliced open by doctors apparently slowed Gaga down on her path to showing us just how shallow and unaware we are, but no worries, it’s full steam ahead on the good ship ArtPop. Which is her latest album, one of her tattoos and also the name of her new app. Gird your loins, you’ll be sick of looking at her face again in no time.
Gaga posted some promo stuff to her Facebook page as well as announcing the dates for her upcoming single, album and app. It’s interesting that this photo hides her nose, since recent candid photos of her have people wondering if she caved in to pressure and had her hooter turned in to something more Hollywood-friendly. Back to the matter of hand, the announcement that accompanied the photo is largely pretentious drivel. See if you can decipher it:
“Altering the human experience with social media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition.
Exploring Gaga’s existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the ‘adrenaline of fame; as they build and share their own projects, chat with one another, and watch in real-time on a virtual globe as ARTPOP explodes onto the physical and virtual universe at once on November 11, our ‘BIG BANG!’ On this day, HAUS OF GAGA venges with forte to bring the music industry into a new age: an age where art drives pop, and the artist once again is in control of the ‘icon’.”
‘Bring the music industry into a new age’? Not really, since Bjork did the same thing in 2011 for ‘Biophilia’, but that will certainly create some hype. Pop music and art have pretty much always gone hand-in-hand too, as long as we’re pointing out things that Lady Gaga can’t take credit for. Admittedly, it’s not as obvious in the age of Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen, but musicians have made long-winded artistic statements for decades. I don’t want to bring up this argument again, but a certain someone who’s name rhymes with ‘Kadonna’ just loves to show off her deep and profound side.
The release also says that the album launch will be preceded by an evening of ‘artRAVE’, which is an obscure way of saying that she’ll be doing a gig to celebrate her new album.
Let’s just hope for Gaga’s sake that this album does ‘explode’. If it disintegrates into a big old ball of confusing metaphors, that would just be embarrassing.

Being pretentious for attention didn’t end well for Michael Jackson.

I don’t really think that Lady Gaga using a good vocabulary to describe a specific idea is pretentious….. That’s like when someone doesn’t understand something and they feel dumb…..so they accuse the person of being pretentious.

Hanna, I’m assuming by the wording of your comment that you are about 14 or 15. That’s OK, we are all young and dumb at some point in our lives.
Ms. Gaga tries to be some kind of icon for all those who feel downtrodden or helpless. This would be fine except for –
1. She’s aping what Madonna did 30 years ago and isn’t even trying to make it appear new and original.
2. Her ego prevents any real good message from getting through. She might as well refer to herself in 3rd person and insert her name into every sentence.

Michael Jackson wasn’t in the least bit pretentious. I suggest you search for the the definition of the word.
