Every man on the planet, at one point or another, has wanted to be Jackie Chan. Not because Jackie Chan gets to star in films with Chris Tucker, or because Jackie Chan can do loads of wicked kung fu with ladders and buckets, though.
Oh no, every man on the planet wants to be Jackie Chan because every man – at some deep genetic fundamental level – has wanted to get pissed up at a concert, clamber up onto the stage, conduct the band so dreadfully that he's heckled, and then launch into a tirade of drunken abuse at the slightly confused audience. And we're pleased to say that, if reports are to be believed, Jackie Chan is living the dream.
At times it appears as if Jackie Chan can do whatever he likes. Make a film with Steve Coogan where he beats up a load of men while inadvertently creating a work of art? Jackie Chan has done it. Open a string of mediocre, yet plainly overpriced, noodle bars across Asia? Jackie Chan has done that, too. String out the Rush Hour franchise with an entirely superfluous third sequel? Well, OK, nobody really wants that, but Jackie Chan has done it anyway.
Forget all that stuff, though, from now on Jackie Chan is famous for one thing and one thing only; getting drunk and mucking up a concert in Hong Kong by Taiwanese singer Jonathan Lee. According to reports, Jackie Chan was Lee's special guest onstage two nights ago, an appearance that was carried out with no difficulty. Last night, however, there was no such arrangement – but that didn't stop Jackie Chan attempting to repeat the trick, while apparently boozed off his nut.
Ming Pao Daily News reports that Jackie Chan climbed onstage at 11.15pm, told the audience that he was drunk and then demanded a duet with Jonathan Lee. Chan then began to conduct the band, making them stop and start a bunch of times until some of the crowd began to yell abuse at him. When this happened, Jackie Chan is reported to have told the crowd to "go to hell."
We're deeply disappointed that we missed seeing Jackie Chan's drunken rampage, so we have a couple of requests. Firstly, we had a quick browse of YouTube looking for a video of the incident, but we couldn't find it. If anyone has more luck than us, leave the link as a comment because we're dying to see it. Failing that, Jackie Chan is going to be in Kung Fu Panda with Angelina Jolie, and we don't think it's too much to ask that a new scene is included of Jackie Chan's lagered-up character screaming drunken abuse for a full 15 minutes at the traumatised young cinema audience.
