Sure, she has a weakness for strippers and ganja. Sure, she seems to be fond of guns and showing areola. Rihanna isn’t the greatest role model in the world for kids, but people seem to be forgetting one thing – she doesn’t have to be.
Liz Jones has published an article on the Daily Mail – which should tell you all you need to know – calling Rihanna a ‘toxic role model’ and generally getting her knickers in a twist over the fact that teenage girls will think it’s cool to make out with other girls and wear hair extensions.
The article spouts the usual crap about her smoking like a chimney and the fact that her Instagram account is full of half-naked selfies, even going so far as to chastise her for posting a photo featuring ‘two giant, phallic spliffs’. Oh, that hussy. She’s so obsessed with sex that she’s making her joints look like huge penises.
But possibly the most ridiculous part of the article is the discussion of her stage outfits:
“…the sort of fashion sense on stage that surely invites rape at worst, disrespect at least.”
So there you are, parents of the world. Instead of raising your kids to not be rapists and to respect other people, teach them to not to bring it on themselves by wearing booty shorts.
The only valid argument made in the whole sorry mess is that she had an opportunity to set an example for people escaping abusive relationships, but then got back together with Chris Brown, the guy that most people could happily kick in the nuts everyday for a year and still not get bored. Then again, maybe she didn’t want to be famous for one of the worst things to ever happen to her.
The writer goes on to criticize her taste in accessories of all things, captioning the above photo with “even her jewellery is the opposite of feminine”. Well I’m convinced. Everybody needs to stop buying Rihanna’s albums until she learns the value of a pearl necklace.
I’d argue that the Disney crowd are worse role models for kids than she is. Imagine it being drummed into your head that you have to be completely tee-total and pure until marriage because that’s what a ‘good’ person is? All?kids will sneakily swig alcopops down the park at some point, no need to make them feel like a complete let-down because they shared a bottle of cherry WKD between five other friends.
Rihanna’s an entertainer. Whilst she has a lot of younger fans, she never said she wanted to be a role model. Do people really expect a 25-year old at the height of her fame, with more money than she knows what to do with, to be sat at home knitting beanies? If your kids are stupid enough to blindly accept everything Rihanna does, then that’s your failing, not hers.

Ms Jones only wants a piece of the pie . She knows That Rihanna is popular right now so that is her way of making money. For me Ms Jones is a waste of time probably in need of hormones.
