Elizabeth Taylor is such an attention-whore. There literally isn’t a trend on Earth that she won’t leap upon.
First it was Michael Jackson‘s death. Oh yeah, that’s right, grieve for your dead friend you horrific opportunist. God, you make us sick. And now, if that wasn’t bad enough, Elizabeth Taylor has started using Twitter as well. Twitter! She’s 77, for crying out loud! What on Earth could Elizabeth Taylor possibly have to tell anybody on Twitter?
Oh, that she’s about to undergo an experimental surgical procedure on her heart? Really? Well don’t we look like quite the insensitive arsehole right now?
Following celebrities on Twitter is probably the world’s most futile exercise. We don’t know about you, but we want our celebrities to be shrouded in mystique and glamour, and to be as far removed from plebs like us as possible. The last thing we want from them is a running, borderline-ambient description about what they might make for their tea. So there’ll be no following celebrities on Twitter for us.
Apart from hip-hop DJ extraordinaire Tim Westwood, obviously – only a robot could fail to find the beauty in an entry like “Aint gonna front – but I can make better porridge than this hotel. The chef should try using milk next time. Weak start to the day” – and maybe Elizabeth Taylor now, too.
Sure, when Elizabeth Taylor joined Twitter earlier in the year she fell into a lot of the same Twitter traps that other celebrities do – like banging on cluelessly about her puppy and not understanding the irony of telling 60,000 people that she didn’t want to grieve in public about Michael Jackson’s death – but now things have got interesting. Because now Elizabeth Taylor is tweeting about her heart surgery. Taylor wrote:
“Dear Friends, I would like to let you know before it gets in the papers that I am going into the hospital to have a procedure on my heart. It’s very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better. Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate. I’ll let you know when it’s all over. Love you, Elizabeth.”
You see? She might be 77 years old, but Elizabeth Taylor knows exactly how Twitter works – in one go she’s managed to bypass her publicist, deal directly with her fans and, most importantly of all, ensure that if anything goes wrong during surgery, her last words to the world wouldn’t be an elongated yet ultimately futile plea with the public to save Kathy Ireland from a premature Dancing With The Stars elimination.
So fingers crossed that Elizabeth Taylor successfully makes it through her heart surgery, because we’re following her now and the last thing we want is another friend who barely updates their Twitter feed.

I have news for you buddy, you, and everyone else, is getting old just as we speak. Did you think, perhaps that ET stayed out of the public eye, because she was tired of malicious commentaries such as yours, which plagued her life from childhood.
Even for a journalist, lack of compasion is not appealing. Bithines and malice are not going to get you far. So, cool down.

I always thought that ET stayed out of the public eye becasue the guvmint were going to experiment on him.
Oh, and your last words? I’ve got Dorothy Parker, Oscar Wilde and Francois Rabelais on the phone for you*.
*I got backstage at Mundus Patet, the Glastonbury of the dead. It’s amazing the contacts you can make.

LOL: Can I have your job?
‘Cause you sure as hell don’t work too hard to get your facts straight before polluting the web with this tripe.
First, open heart surgery is a vital, life-saving procedure – NOT an attention-getting ploy.
Second, Dame Liz was Tweeting BEFORE MJ died.
Third, when you use Twitter, it is rather helpful to – you guessed it – actually KNOW how it works!
Fourth, if you are THAT offended by her Tweets and the content of them, why are you FOLLOWING her??
Get a life and get a clue.

Well, the clincher was a bit much but overall I get what you’re saying and for me it seems like you support Liz’s tweets. She’s a classy lady for tweeting directly to her fans, though I did hear about her impending heart operation on the radio this morning. I do like Twitter, but I know there are some haters out there.
