Yes, I know this news is a few days old but 1) I’ve been working and mega sick, and 2) I didn’t want to write a first reaction blog about this topic. I wanted to wait until I’d really wrapped my head around the situation so I didn’t come on here and sound like a disgruntled liberal, which I’m sure I often sound like anyway.
I won’t lie, on Tuesday night I had to take an Ativan and go to bed early because I could not fucking handle watching the election results. When I woke up Wednesday morning and read that Trump had won I legit cried, and I cried twice more during the day like the big fucking baby I am.
On Wednesday I went to the gym and ran five miles on the treadmill, blasting Rage Against the Machine the whole time, feeling angry and depressed all at once.
It’s never been that I was super into Hillary Clinton, because I’m actually all about Bernie Sanders, which you guys know if you follow my garbage opinions. It’s not even about Trump himself. It’s about American’s voting in a guy who based his whole campaign on being mean and a bully. He’s proven himself to be racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, unqualified, and a million other shitty things and American’s were just like “Yeah, that’s cool, you can still be our prez lol.” As a woman and as a mom, it just felt like such a fucking acceptance of hate.
Like, are half of American’s LEGIT this hateful? Because that’s what got to me, that that could be true. Then I watched this video by Russell Brand:
Brand brought me some comfort because I was kind of able to wrap my head more around why people might have voted for Trump. I don’t believe that all Trump voters are misogynists, racists, homophobes, etc, so I can let that fear and anger go. I think a lot of people in America just really need something different right now, something I don’t think Hillary would have given them. There is so much fucking poverty and suffering in America right now, and there has been for a long time. People are losing jobs, people are not able to get jobs, people are losing their homes, people are really fucking struggling because the government has been focusing on such major issues (which, of course, they should) that they’re kind of forgetting about the smaller issues of the individual people. Could Hillary have more than competently tackled the major issues? For sure. But would stuff for the life of the every day, lower/middle-class American change? I don’t think so. And I get why that pisses people off.
I’m a middle-class parent myself who is painfully frustrated with the economy. I’m working on my 4th degree, yet I still work the same job that I’ve had since before I had any degrees because there are so few job opportunities out there. I know you guys probably think I’m rolling in all this sweet celebrity blogger money, but I’m actually living pay cheque to pay cheque like most people, up to my fucking ears in student loan debt. Child care costs a fortune, mortgages are high, feeding your family doesn’t come cheap, I fucking wish something would change in North America, too!
Do I actually think that Donald Trump can fix this? Fuck no. That guy doesn’t even pay taxes and LEGIT shits in a GOLDEN toilet, but, like Brand said, there is no ignoring the fact that change needs to happen now. It’s right in our faces that the government wasn’t working for the people and now something has to change. Trump’s win shouldn’t cause fear and anger, it should light a fire under everyone’s ass to actually make America a better place.
As bad as I feel for Hillary, the Democrats kind of did this to themselves. I actually think Bernie Sanders could have been the American president to make some fantastic changes for the people, but the DNC fucked him over and pushed for Hillary, so it’s their own damn fault Trump is president, tbh.
As for all the people in the streets protesting Trumps win: I feel you, and I 100% approve of protesting and passion for the country, but if you’re out there getting violent and setting fire to paper mache Trumps and Trump heads, you’re really under mining your fucking point. Trump is a hateful mean dude, and you don’t oppose that with hate, you battle it with love and kindness and understanding. So go be peaceful in the streets, hold hands, be heard, but be heard with heart. Don’t become what you hate to make your point.
To conclude: Bernie Sanders 2020!
Larry Barbrow Sr. says
I am sorry you feel that Trump supporters must be “Like, are half of American’s LEGIT this hateful?”. This statement assumes the things you believe about trump are true. I don’t belive they are. And further more, who are truly the “haters”? Just check out ANY news cast, the ones calling us “haters”, are the ones in the streets destroying everything they can. We lost two elections to Barak Obama, and not ONCE, did ANY of us take to the streets and behave like that. Please look in the mirror, and express that hatred to THAT person. Maybe you will see how it makes US feel! We simply want government OUT OF THE WAY! I know you think the politicians want what’s best for us, but the more government grows, the worse things get! I don’t need the government taking care of the neighbors, i do that MYSELF! And as for knowing what’s best, my friends and i can get along just fine without Washington telling us how to survive. Donald said “drain the swamp”, i hope we can. Hillary tried to hide her business, Donald says whats on his mind. I respect someone who is NOT deceitful, even if i don’t like their opinions!

Yes, he is, thank God, and 61 million Americans are also looking forward to reinstallation of The United States of America and the destruction of that communist, George Soros.

He is illegitimate. He got millions of votes less than Clinton. There was monkey business in states that usually voted Blue and swung to him. He didn’t win for any other reason than he is a cheater and a con and the Russians propagandized this election. I am tired of reading blame on liberals… we aren’t the problem, we are the solution.
