Of all the cast of Friends, Courtney Cox has easily had the dullest solo career. No messy marriage break-ups, no failed rubbish sitcoms, no, um, whatever the rest of them have been up to lately.

But all of that’s going to change, because Courtney Cox is returning to our TV screens in a new series entitled Dirt. But, in a concerted effort to make sure that audiences don’t just remember Courtney Cox as kooky, uptight chef Monica Geller, her character in Dirt will be a kooky uptight tabloid editor instead. Or something.

Since their sitcom bit the dust in 2004, the cast of Friends have had fluctuating careers. Matt LeBlanc tried and failed to keep Joey alive, Lisa Kudrow also made a rubbish sitcom, Jennifer Aniston has been more famous for her personal life
than any of her films, David Schwimmer has popped up on Curb Your
Enthusiasm
and Matthew Perry… well, we don’t talk about Matthew Perry.

As for Courtney Cox (CDs), she’s been bust producing a series starring
Daisy Donovan. Yes, Daisy Donovan from The 11 O’Clock Show. And that’s
just about it. But now that the Friends reunion series and the Friends movie have both been nixed, Courtney Cox seems to have decided to move on. So she’s going to make Dirt, a new series for FX.

Dirt is said to be a "drama" about the cut and thrust world of
tabloid journalism, with Cox starring as the editor of two magazines.
That’s about all we know, so Dirt could be a quirky Ally McBeal-style
drama or it could be a miserable NYPD Blue-style drama. But with
recurring characters such as "a schizophrenic paparazzo and a
struggling actor,"
we’d assume that we’re probably straying into McBeal
territory.

Courtney Cox and her husband David Arquette are executive producing Dirt with creator
Matthew Carnahan, who will also write and direct the pilot episode.
Production begins in March in Los Angeles.
