Never let it be said that Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't know her audience. Even though she's pushing 30, she's got the whole 'teenage supernatural geek idol' thing nailed, and by Christ she won't let go of it.
Because, in a dramatic career change, Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed up to star in Addicted, a forthcoming horror movie based on a South Korean horror movie. And you thought Sarah Michelle Gellar only made horror movies based on Japanese horror movies, didn't you? You poor fools.
Being Buffy The Vampire Slayer must have been a curse and a blessing for Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was a blessing because that's how Sarah Michelle Gellar got to be the famous and successful star of Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, but it was a curse because a) every waking second of Sarah Michelle Gellar's life is filled with a swarm of dribbling geeks asking her if she's still friends with Xander and trying to touch her on the boob, b) if Sarah Michelle Gellar was the least successful Buffy like Kristy Swanson is then it'd be her that got pregnant by a frilly-bloused ice dancer by now and c) all Sarah Michelle Gellar makes these days are fan-pleasing Asian horror remakes like Addicted.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has just signed up for Addicted, a horror movie financed by the Yari Film Group along with Vertigo and Spitfire. Addicted is based on the 2002 South Korean movie Jungdok, where a brother sort of switches place with another brother and woman gets scared and there's probably a freaky looking boy and a woman in a nightie with her hair all over her face in it somewhere too. We're fully aware of how lame that explanation was, so here's Comingsoon's version of Addicted:
The story revolves around a woman whose husband and brother-in-law end up in a coma after a horrible accident. When the brother-in-law wakes up, he says he is her true husband.
Wooo, spooky. Actually, that's not spooky at all – that's 1995 Sandra Bullock romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping. Addicted – written by Michael Petroni and directed by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist – is just the latest hokey horror movie that Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed up for, following The Grudge, The Grudge 2, and The Return. And yet nothing is quite as scary as the fact that Sarah Michelle Gellar actually thinks Freddie Prinze Jr is endearing enough to marry.
