If you're like us, then you\’ll probably be unsure of what programmes ITV broadcast. Everyone knows that in the morning, you can watch Jeremy Kyle shouting at some backwards looking people. At lunchtime, you can see car crash TV with Loose Women who have failed to change anyone?s perceptions about anything. Ever.
Occasionally, shows like X-Factor and Britain?s Got Talent come along and seemingly last forever, but, apart from that, there's nothing apart from the news and period dramas. That's TV from the olden times, not about ladies and their front bottoms you sicko.
In a world full of depressing issues such as increasing taxes, shootings and murders, you'd hope someone would take us in to a world of escapism where we can drift away and pretend we're princesses. Alas, this probably won't happen until we get to make television. ITV are proudly going to recreate the time when Fred & Rose West were brought to justice.
For one of the leading media broadcasters in the world, sometimes it's quite worrying that us Brits can't make any sort of crime drama without having to recreate something from the past. Let's face it; The Bill wasn?t exactly cutting edge due to its police brutality and subtle crime busting techniques. The bloody show was broadcast before the watershed, ensuring that when a baddie was caught by the boys in blue, he/she wouldn't scream ?fuck it's the filth, run!? Instead, they?d utter ?oh fiddlesticks I've been caught! Blast!?
Crime happens 24/7 and recent American TV cop shows have shown how gritty and grim life can be. Hooray for The Shield and The Wire which covered everything from prostitution, betrayal and drugs. And it's none other than The Wire star Dominic West who will appear as Fred West.
It is reported that the ITV dramatisation, which will certainly bring fun and frolics for the entire family when it's eventually screened, will cover murder, incest and rape, as well as suicide.
?The drama will tell the story of how Fred and Rosemary West were brought to justice, focusing on the period between Fred West’s arrest and his suicide on New Year’s Day 1995. Rosemary West will be played by Monica Dolan, who has appeared in ITV dramas including Agatha Christie’s Poirot.?
Given the horrible situation regarding the unsolved murder of Jo Yeates, it seems somewhat unfitting that a national broadcaster wants to show how a couple of murderers were brought to justice. Supposedly, none of their crimes will be shown on screen but their notoriety alone doesn't need to be filmed and broadcast to the nation.
Probably the only time that we?d actively pick Take Me Out.
