Listen, I know it’s the 11th, but I only just realized when I went to write my Golden Globes blog that my laptop must’ve glitched out and neither of my blogs from last night saved. Thank GOD I had them saved in a word document. BUT ANYWAY, over the past few months, we’ve obviously seen a lot of famous men get exposed for being major pervs and it’s totally disheartening.
However, given that this is an advent of funny, happy, and cool shit that went down in pop culture this year, I’m going to take a sec to praise the decent men in the industry, such as Drake!
At a concert after party in Sydney a few weeks ago, Drake was performing when he noticed a male fan was getting handsy with some female fans in attendance and was visibly making them uncomfortable. If you’re a girl who’s been to a dance club or show, you’ve definitely been there. Insert eye roll.
While a douchey dude trying to rub his boner on you at the club is a tale as old as time (beauty and the beast, indeed), how Drake handled it when he noticed was awesome and admirable.
Drake shut the music down to scold the guy, telling him on the mic in front of everyone:
If you don’t stop touching girls I’m going to come out there and fuck you up. If you don’t stop putting your hands on girls I’m going to come out there and fuck your ass up.
Beautiful.
And the great thing is, it’s not just Drake stepping shit up since this sexual misconduct shit hit the fan! An incredibly emotional Kevin Smith will be giving all the residuals he gets from any of his Weinstein films to the non-profit group Women in Film because he doesn’t want to profit from the abuse of others, and Channing Tatum’s company pulled their film from the Weinstein company even though it would definitely cost them.
So props to all the men who’ve got our backs this year. You’re cool af. Now if only the #MeToo movement would have any effect at all on Woody Allen and R. Kelly. I mean, whether or not they’ve forcibly raped anyone, they still very legitimately preyed on teenage girls, sooooo….ya know.
