Why do people watch Dancing With The Stars? Is it for the dancing, or is there something more to it?
Of course there is. People love the relationships. People watch Dancing With The Stars because they love the idea that the contestants will slowly fall in love with their professional dancers over the course of the competition. They want to see the dancefloor chemistry transform into untamed lust. That’s why Chad Ochocinco remained on Dancing With The Stars for so long – because everyone thought he’d fallen in love with his partner Cheryl Burke.
Or maybe people just watch Dancing With The Stars because they’re old and lonely and their children never call them any more. We just don’t know at this juncture. Either way, Chad Ochocinco was voted off Dancing With The Stars last night. That was our original point.
Chad Ochocinco may have been a professional athlete, but his tenure on Dancing With The Stars was so long because of the hinted-at love story between him and his partner Cheryl Burke. It was disarmingly sweet to watch – Chad would turn up to training each week weighed down with gifts of diamonds for Cheryl each week, and in return her feminine touch helped to transform him from ungainly brute to gracefully balletic swan.
It was a very tender, human relationship, and that’s what hooked the viewers in. Not like Kate Gosselin‘s sour relationship with her partner, or 80-year-old former astronaut Buzz Aldrin‘s unsettling habit of dragging his partner outside, throwing her over some bins and having disturbingly rough sex with her whenever the mood took him (unless we made that up).
But, alas, these Dancing With The Stars relationships are like holiday flings – they seem perfect at the time, but soon they’re over and real life kicks in again. So now that Chad Ochocinco has been eliminated from Dancing With The Stars, it means that he’ll soon go back to whatever it is he does for a living, and Cheryl Burke will get ready to have it off with whoever gets to be her partner in the next season.
But before the reality of their elimination set in, Chad and Cheryl had nothing but gushing praise for each other after learning that they wouldn’t reach the Dancing With The Stars finale last night. ABC News reports:
Burke characterized their relationship as a “special friendship that will always mean the world to me.” Ochocinco said that what the couple built during dance practice will “continue for a lifetime.” He thanked Burke and the show’s cast, calling his experience on the show “awesome.” “In my eyes, really, I’ve already won.” Burke called her partner “the most amazing, soft, gentle man in the world.”
It just goes to show that, while nice, tenderness and human warmth count for nothing on Dancing With The Stars. Which is just as well, because Nicole Scherzinger doesn’t have anywhere near enough time to replicate convincing human emotions and port them over to her motherboard before the finale.

I really do wish them the best. They clearly deserve to be happy. Chad off camera seems exactly as she says a really humble, sweet guy. He appreciates life and people. his character completely appeals to her zodiac sign and complements it near perfectly… taurus and capricorn. If they do date after the shows it would work for a long time.
