Looks like Martha Stewart might have to write an apology letter to herself – NBC has told her that one series of The Apprentice: Martha Stewart is enough. She’s fired.
Poor old Martha Stewart. Now that she won’t be given another bunch of overly ambitious morons to passive-aggressively screw with, it looks like Martha will be going back to the her other hobbies: rowing across rivers in pumpkins and being nauseatingly rich.
The Apprentice: Martha Stewart wasn’t just a failure. It was a
failure that almost toppled the entire Apprentice franchise for NBC. Since
Martha Stewart (Books) showed up on The Apprentice scene with her fancy glass partitions and her wistful but
terrifyingly robotic talk of grandchildren, ratings have struggled to
achieve anything above 6.8 million a week.
And this hurt Donald Trump, too. The star of the original Apprentice
saw his audience take a big knock this season, too. And he insinuated
in a typical bellowing, finger-jabbing radio interview that it was all the fault of Martha Stewart.
But, no, Martha Stewart hasn’t been fired by NBC. Not according to Martha
Stewart, anyway. Her company issued a statement saying that there was
always only ever going to be one series of The Apprentice: Martha
Stewart, and that everyone was making a great big fuss over nothing:
"From the time we knew we would be producing a live daily TV show with
Martha as the star, it was clear that we could only do one round of
‘The Apprentice.’"
So let’s get this right. Even if The Apprentice: Martha Stewart was a giant,
world-eating hit which turned Martha into the biggest star on the planet,
she’s have still given it up so that she could teach Whoopi Goldberg
how to fold T-shirts and interview sexy pigs on a daytime magazine show.
Apparently, on her daytime TV show today, Martha is going to show Shania Twain some horses.
