I’m someone who has relentlessly ragged on Ariana Grande for years, but today I’m going to do something totally different and show her genuine sympathy. Last night while performing in Manchester, UK, two bombs were set during Ariana Grande’s concert, killing 19 and injuring at least 50. Some of which were children.
While police have obtained a suspect and are confirming this as a terrorist attack, it’s just another shitty reminder that the world is horrifically unsafe.
In the past two years we’ve seen mass shootings at dance clubs and terrorist attacks at concerts (Eagles of Death Metal in France, now Ariana in England) and it is absolute and utter bullshit, and I wish I could say “WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE WORLD?!” like any of this is new to me, but it kind of isn’t.
If you were around in the ’90s, then you definitely remember the Oklahoma City bombing. A homegrown, white American man committed an act of terrorism by bombing a building in Oklahoma that had a fucking DAYCARE inside of it!
Shit has always been messed up, and it sucks.
Ariana is said to be completely broken down and devastated and spent the night after the concert hysterically sobbing, and I can’t say I blame her. I assume most performers want people to go to their shows to enjoy the must, have fun, and escape for a little while. Instead, people at her concert last night were senselessly hurt and killed.
This was a horrific act done by a horrific asshole and it seems like every time we turn around some piece of shit is trying to destroy our ability to enjoy the simple things in life: going dancing, seeing a movie with friends, taking in the concert of your favourite performer, going to a fucking McDonalds. THERE HAVE BEEN MASS KILLINGS ALL OF THOSE PLACES AND IT’S INSANE.
I never thought I’d see the day where my heart would go out to Ariana Grande, but it does, just as it does to all those affected by this horrific act of violence and hate.
