Are you sick of awards yet? Tough luck – there’s going to be about a million awards ceremonies pumped into your face in the next few months – ceremonies like last night’s People’s Choice Awards.
The People’s Choice Awards are unique among awards ceremonies as they are chosen by the public – smart, well-informed arbiters of taste like you. And probably millions of shrieking, cross-eyed, under-educated plebs as well – people who genuinely thought that Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith was the best movie of the last year.
The People’s Choice Awards are where the public get to have their
say on what stuff they like and what stuff they don’t. And this year
the public have said "You can stick your films about gay cowboys
and institutionalised racism in modern day America up your arse, we
want space battles and robots with loads of arms."
Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith (DVDs) was a big winner at
last night’s 32nd People’s Choice Awards, winning the awards for Best
Movie Drama, Best Movie and Best Bit In A Film Where Darth Vader Goes
"Noooooooooo!".
Angelina Jolie – who grabbed the headlines in November for getting several People’s Choice nominations
– walked away empty-handed last night. She lost Favourite Female Movie
Star to Sandra Bullock – who’s probably telling herself that she won
for her truthful portrayal of a woman on the edge in Crash, but probably won for
dressing up as an old lady in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed And Fabulous.
Angelina also lost the Favourite Female Action Star award to
Jennifer Garner, and the Favourite On-Screen Match-Up award (with Brad
Pitt for Mr & Mrs Smith) to Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson for
Wedding Crashers.
Other big People’s Choice award-winners included Johnny Depp for
Best Male Movie Star, Kelly Clarkson for Best Female Performer (music),
Cameron Diaz for Crest Whitestrips Fans Favourite Smile, Faith Hill for Nice ‘N Easy Fans Favourite Hair and Jennifer Aniston for Olay Total Effects Fans Favourite Look, which sets Aniston up nicely for the Olay Total Effects Fans Favourite Look Oscar in March.
