Sylvester Stallone is going to star in Rambo 4.
hecklerspray can’t help sensing that the next big movie trend is going to be really old actors doing rubbish sequels of action films that made them famous 20 years ago. Earlier today, we reported that Indiana Jones 4 has almost been greenlighted, and there have been murmurs about Bruce Willis (DVDs) and Justin Timberlake (CDs) teaming up in a new Die Hard film.
Now we are going to be subjected to the sight of rickety old Stallone (DVDs) creaking round a jungle with a pair of support stocking tied around his head.
The plot for Rambo 4 is reported to go something like this… Rambo
has settled down with a family but white supremacists kidnap his young
daughter. So Rambo goes after them. With possible action sequences set
in the United Nations headquarters. And India, somehow.
It’s promised to be a revenge film, in the tradition of Straw Dogs
(DVDs) or Deliverance (DVDs). You’ll notice Get Carter – one of the best revenge films
of all time – was left off that list. That’s because Stallone has already
badly fouled up a remake of it.
It’s strange that Rambo has been such an enduring character. The
first film was a heartbreaking critique of what happens to old soldiers
when they are released back into an uncaring community, and how the
army hardwires their brains. War is wrong, it said. But the next two
movies were all guns and explosions and dead foreigners. The message of
those films was war, yeah!
A film company spokesman told The Sun that if Rambo 4 is a success,
we might be watching Rambo 5 before too long. This is a nice turnaround
for Sylvester Stallone, who has lately been reduced to starring in muck
like Spy Kids 3D and presenting reality television shows.
If the new Rambo film makes Stallone the star he was, it might not
be too long before his long-cherished Rocky 6 sees the light of day.
Although boxing isn’t the draw it used to be. Does this mean we’ll see
Rocky as a dusty old ultimate cage fighter? Fingers crossed…
Rambo 4 starts filming in January
