It’s official, Russell Crowe has a friend at last – Mayor Roger Fenelon from the small French village of Bonnieux likes Russ so much, that he wants to make Russ’s unborn baby an honorary citizen of France.
Russell Crowe claims that this baby – his second with wife Danielle Spencer – was conceived in Bonnieux whilst he was there filming A Good Year last autumn. Clearly the thought of Crowe and his missus indulging in a bit of heavy petting has gotten the garlic-infused mayor a bit excited.
Mayor Roger Fenlon, obviously thrilled that his sleepy little village has the ability to get Russell Crowe (DVDs) all jiggy, said:
“I think that … the very pleasant and warm atmosphere in the south of
France might have helped give them the necessary inspiration.”
Russell, who already has a two-year-old son – Charles – with Danielle, announced his wife’s pregnancy on the red-carpet at the Golden Globes earlier this week:
“She’s due in July, so it’s a French conception.”
Russell Crowe must be overjoyed at
the news that the mayor of Bonnieux wants to make his unborn son a Frenchman – he’s finally found a place where his reputation as an aggressive misery-chops isn’t quite so overwhelming.
The Hollywood actor – who is partial to flinging phones at hotel staff,
pinning directors to the wall when they don’t like his poetry and other
general acts of fisticuffs – seems to have found a friend in the old mayor, who
so far doesn’t appear to have a restraining order on the Australian
brute. However, maybe there’s something a bit more sinister going on… Mayor Fenlon said in a telephone interview with Associated Press:
“It would give us great pleasure if one day, during a trip to France,
they stop by Bonnieux so we can make their baby an honorary citizen.”
We can’t help thinking that there’s something a little bit Rosemary’s Baby about all of this; if Crowe’s baby is born with crazy red eyes and small horns poking out of
it’s head then someone had better arrange an exorcism, and quick.
Then again, could just be the little sprog looks like it’s dad.
