Before I get started, I would just like to say that unless something monumental happens, this will be the last blog I write about Trump or anything political between now and Christmas as both an early Christmas gift to you guys and myself, deal? Deal.
As you can probably tell if you follow this blog, I was just as up in arms about the whole Trump getting elected president thing as much as anyone else, and even though I get why people are both upset and happy, I feel like protestors on both sides of this whole Trump thing are more so making themselves look like idiots rather than making any solid political points.
First, let’s deal with the most recent news: Pro-Trump protestors. As I wrote about yesterday, Mike Pence for some strange reason decided to attend the Broadway show Hamilton; you know, the ground-breaking play about colonial rebellion starring minorities, woman and gays? Yeah, I have no idea why he was there either. Pence got booed a whole lot by the audience and when the play was over the actors took to the stage and actor Brandon Victor Dixon addressed Pence directly, stating:
We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.
Even though Dixon’s statement was pretty chill and not so much an attack as a plea for the VP to work for all American rights, Donald, of course, took this as a total attack on Mike Pence, taking to Twitter (of course), to say:
Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theatre by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. The theatre must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!
Dixon tweeted at Trump saying “conversation is not harassment sir” while adding that he appreciates Pence stopping to listen.
First of all, Donald Trump of all people should know a thing or two about harassment, since during his campaign alone he harassed like a million people, and what Mr. Dixon said to Mr. Pence was far from harassment. Second, is Donald Trump actually demanding that someone apologize for being rude?! PLEASE dear GOD tell me he’s being ironic! Please dear GOD tell me the president-elect sees the irony in his statement! Jesus take the wheel with me here today!
Anyway, after all this went down, pro-Trump supporters decided they were going to start the #BoycottHamilton movement which is so hilarious that even multiple celebrities weighed in on it. Why is it hilarious? Because Hamilton is sold out for longer than Trump will even be president! Seriously, you legitimately have to sell your soul to get into this show. Calling to boycott Hamilton in support of Trump is like calling to boycott The Beatles. THEY ALREADY HAVE ALL OF YOUR MONEY AND PAUL AND RINGO ARE GOING TO BE ROLLING AROUND IN YOUR MONEY UNTIL THE DAY THEY DIE! People all over Twitter are already looking to buy the tickets the pro-Trump supporters are looking to sell, so there really is no way to successfully boycott this show, it just isn’t a thing.
However, this whole #BoycottHamilton thing PALES in comparison to the stupidity of the #TrumpCup, another pro-Trump protest.
This whole thing started when on November 7th a video surfaced depicting a Starbucks patron demanding to have the name “Trump” written on his cup. The barista tries his best to ignore the unruly customer while one of his coworkers phones the cops. Amazingly, this is not the first known tantrum thrown by a Trump supporter in a Starbucks store.
So, to get back at Starbucks for not being supportive of Trump, what are this pro-Trump folks doing to protest? They’re going to Starbucks, BUYING A STARBUCKS DRINK, and getting Trump written on their cups. So they’re boycotting Starbucks by giving their money to Starbucks…okay…
Some supporters are saying that it’s not about boycotting Starbucks, but rather showing Starbucks how many Trump supporters there are. Yeah, ok, but they’re still getting you’re money and they probably don’t give a shit, soooo…is your point really being made?
It’s not just the pro-Trump protestors, though. As I’ve stated in the past, anti-Trump protestors have really been undermining themselves with their violent protests and slut-shaming Melania. You don’t go after Trump’s violence and misogyny with shit like this:
I have never seen so much hate and garbage and anger come from BOTH sides during an election like I have this year, and the holidays are coming up so I’m taking a fucking break. I’m going to write about Kylie Jenner or something like that, because I need a goddamn break from all the hate and anger, you feel me?
