We don't know about you, but we haven't managed to get a single wink of sleep since hearing earlier in the year that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe may have had a bit of marriage counselling.
But everything is OK now – our 12-week marathon of panic-filled insomnia-induced screaming hallucinations is over – because Reese Witherspoon has finally come out and publicly declared that her marriage to Ryan Phillippe is just dandy. And with that, the world can go about their lives again, safe in the knowledge that the cowboy lady and her anonymous husband are still getting on.
Reese Witherspoon has had a rollercoaster of a 2006. She won an Oscar for her role in Walk The Line, but then arsed it up by making the world's most rubbish-ever acceptance speech. She won a Golden Globe for the same role, then realised that she was accidentally wearing one of Kirsten Dunst's cast-offs instead of a sparkly new dress. And then there were Reese Witherspoon's reported marriage troubles.
Reese Witherspoon, remember, is married to Ryan Phillippe – a man who physically couldn't be less famous. And there was a lot of talk of Reese 'pulling a Swank' – getting restless at being far more successful than her husband and then dumping him. Reese even admitted going to marriage counselling, saying:
"Sure we've had counselling. But it's healthy to deal with problems
that come up when you're living with another human being and forging
your lives together."
And now Reese Witherspoon, possibly realising that telling the truth about her marriage contravened several age-old Hollywood traditions, is on the backtrack. She says:
"It's sad to see that when you are honest and talk about the normal ups
and downs it gets taken out of context. Ryan and I have a great
marriage, I see him not only as my husband but also as my best friend."
What does Ryan Phillippe think of the public's fascination with the state of his marriage to Reese Witherspoon? God knows. Reese doesn't let him talk in public.
