Every reaction, they say, has an equal and opposite reaction.
Take the recent pictures of Paris Hilton weeping and blubbing as she was carted off back to jail. hecklerspray found the whole affair so hilarious, in fact, that a couple of us in the office actually smiled. Yesiree, there's few things that harbour more comic gold than a stupid rich woman being humiliated in front of the whole wide world.
Of course, there has to be a flipside to this.
Sure, sure, is Paris Hilton's incarceration one of the funniest things ever? Is her bawling misery a source of joy for every right-thinking person on the planet? Should her jail sentence, perhaps, be extended to the end of time itself? You may say yes, yes and yes again – but there's a truth a-comin' that might just offset that grin of yours.
Paris Hilton, you see, is officially worth about 11 times more than your average inmate. Not in terms of moral or ethical value, of course – in those terms, we'd probably put her somewhere in between Al Capone and Beth from Brookside.
No, no, no: we mean that it's actually costing the US taxpayer 11 times the amount it would take to incarcerate a 'normal' criminal.
Apparently:
The 26-year-old hotel heiress costs Los Angeles County $1,109.78, compared to the average $99.64 (GBP49.82). Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore tells website TMZ.com, Hilton's tab includes medical treatment and staff associated with her requirements. Hilton was sent back to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California on Friday (08Jun07) to finish the 45-day sentence she began earlier this month (03Jun07) – after a judge reversed the decision to allow her to complete the sentence under house arrest. If Hilton had finished her sentence at home, it would have cost the County nothing.
To cut a long story short? Same old, same old.
It's one rule for Paris and one rule for us mere mortals. Face it, readers: if any of you were thrown into a jail, it'd probably be a non-stop hellish miasma of degradation, abuse and rampant forced bum-sex. You think Paris is going to be part of anything like that?
Well. Not until her next video, anyway.

Jodi says
Besides the cost of housing Paris in the medical ward, a foolish
thing to do when compared with the Sheriff’s idea of house arrest
which cost tax payers nothing, we should also all realize that the
longer a term Paris serves for this low level crime of driving while
not drunk on a suspended license, the longer us mere mortals will
serve now for the same crime. This means increased costs for the
jail and tax payers. Foolishness because anyone that does not think
Paris learned her lesson in the first 24 hours isn’t doing much thinking.
House arrest for the 40 days she agreed to would have been a long
term reminder for her. Try staying in your house for 3 days and you
will see. Once again I ask you to find anyone in LA that served longer
than 3 days for the same crime. If anyone did serve longer than 3 days
her
license suspended for more than a year but only paid a fine when she
was caught driving on suspended license.they would have been in the news for the past week.
Next, Why is the Rev. Sharpton in LA making sure Paris serves her 23
days when the 17 year old boy in Georgia has spent 28 months in jail
for having oral sex with another teenager? If the Rev. is fighting for
the equal rights of blacks or low income people I think he should have
been raising heck over that miscarraige of justice rather than helping to
cause another miscarraige of justice that being Paris serving 23 days in
jail for driving while not drunk on a suspended license. Note Paris’s license
was suspended for 60 or 90 days while the prosecutors wife had
only to pay a fine when caught driving on her suspended license which
was suspended for more than a year. Equal Justice?

jodi a comment or so above shed some fascinating light on the people dishing out the ‘discipline’! Who gives a shit about giving paris hilton the maximum in prison ? – would you wanna go to prison for driving whilst suspended?! everyone calm the fuck down and drive back down the pub to finish your 5 pints before they get warm.

This is all an act designed to keep her name in the news and the media is cooperating because it is an easy story. the public likes the story too because it is easy to understand. I think Paris is actually a genuis. Who else could have figured out that acting like a spoiled child in public could have generated such interest. sure its bad publicity, but she has been the forcus of attention for almost a week.

The price paid for Paris to stay in jail would pay for an average inmate to stay more than 16 months! Over a year! They were idiots to do this. They should have given her 5 days of jail, then forced her to do 100 hours of community service. She could sweep the streets. That would humiliate her a bit.
zoom says
Also she’d be giving back to the community by doing that work.
James says
Why don’t they make her pay for her own incarceration? If a convict has the means to pay for their “room and board”, shouldn’t they?
