The Oscars are on Sunday, so we’ve got double the Oscar betting odds action for you this week, starting with the betting odds for Best Actor today and tomorrow.
There’s a stunningly predictable mix of roles up for the Best Actor Oscar. Unsurprisingly, three of the five nominees are all playing real-life people – because it’s much easier to tell how good they are at acting if you know who they’re supposed to be, right? Anyway, real or fictitious, you’d do a lot worse than to put a nice big bet on who you think will win the Best Actor Oscar this year. Why? Because this is very possibly the only chance you’ll ever have of making money from a gay cowboy.
We’ll start today with the first part of our Best Actor Oscar betting odds coverage, by looking at the odds of Terrence Howard, David Strathairn and Joaquin Phoenix. Oscars betting odds come with help from SportingOdds.com…
Terrence Howard – Terrence Howard played DJay in Hustle & Flow.
Hustle & Flow is a story about a man from the wrong side of the
tracks who tries to become a successful rapp… oh, look, it’s
basically that 50 Cent film with a different name. And better actors,
if the Oscar nominations are any indication. Terrence Howard is meant
to be rather good in Hustle & Flow (at least, we read that
somewhere), but since he isn’t playing a dead person, we’d suggest that
the Best Actor Oscar is out of his grasp this year. Current Best Actor
Oscar betting odds – 33/1
David Strathairn – David Strathairn played Edward R. Murrow in Good
Night, And Good Luck – Not being American, we don’t know a lot about
Edward R. Murrow, but we heard that Richard Madeley looks up to him, so
we’re immediately suspicious of the man. As far as we can tell, all
David Strathairn does in Good Night, And Good Luck is look a bit stern
and authoritative all the time. A bit like Anne Robinson, really. And he
does it all in black and white, too, which means that he is one serious
actor. Respect him all you like, but it’s a long shot for him to get
the Best Actor Oscar. Current Best Actor Oscar betting odds – 20/1
Joaquin Phoenix – Joaquin Phoenix played Johnny Cash in Walk The
Line – It doesn’t need to be said that the people who vote for Oscars
love it when actors play dead singers. Jamie Foxx grabbed his Oscar for
doing his Ray Charles party piece last year, and Joaquin Phoenix has a
passing chance to repeat it this year by uncannily playing Johnny Cash
in a film. We say ‘uncannily’, but mainly he just puts on a deep voice
and falls off his chair once. Joaquin’s not the favourite to win the
Best Actor Oscar this year – despite winning a Golden Globe for the
same role – but never underestimate the draw of the dead singer.
Current Best Actor Oscar betting odds – 15/2
That’s all for today – tomorrow we’ll be taking a look at the
betting odds for the other two Best Actor Oscar nominees. But in the
meantime, head over to the Specials section of SportingOdds.com to see
