This must rank right up there with spilling spaghetti over your shirt on a first date. Orlando Bloom (DVD) – once down on his luck with only a broken back and a box of Bendicks to his name, now stuffed full of more cash than a National Lottery bank vault – couldn’t pay his $730 restaurant bill.
Admittedly, to someone who drives an illegal minicab or packs dustbin liners for a living this is a lot of money, but you’d have to assume Bloom could cover such a hefty tab with small change. And his girlfriend’s none too shy for that matter either.
Bootstrap Bloom and the lovely lady in question, Kate Bosworth (DVD), racked up this bill while dining at Rio de Janeiro’s gorgeous Casaro Amarelo eatery, a treat for her 22nd birthday. One can only assume that for $730 they ordered more than the garlic mushrooms and a bottle of Bucks Fizz.
Bill time came and, like every proper gentleman should, Bloom put his hand in pocket for the whole lot. It’s a fair guess that he didn’t expect to have his credit card returned five minutes later with the waiter’s cringeworthy, “I’m sorry sir, but…”
What has Bloom done with all that Lord of Rings (Book/DVD/CD) money, spent it on platinum hair bobbles? Cheekbone extensions? Or maybe it’s just one too many trips down Mr B’s?
Actually we’re poking a bit of A-lister fun at Orlando’s expense. Moreover, when you consider the meal was really for him, Bosworth and twenty-eight other people, perhaps they did just order the garlic mushrooms after all. At only about twelve quid a head it’s no wonder all these celebrity types are so thin.
"Yes, it’s true. Orlando was here with Kate and about 30 people in January.” commented the restaurant’s diplomatic owner Fe Behling “There was a problem with our credit card system that night. It wasn’t his fault–he did his best to pay the bill at the time.”
After all that it was just a simple misunderstanding. Though Bloom still hasn’t settled the bill yet.
"He told us he didn’t have a personal email account and so took our address. And although we’re sure it’s a complete misunderstanding and know he’s very busy, we’ve yet to hear from him."
Being as the meal was in January and we’re now comfortably waving goodbye to April it’s a safe bet that Bloom has either forgot or is still feeling the financial repercussions of The Calcium Kid (DVD). Any more movies like that and for Kate’s next bithday it’ll a McDonalds Happy Meal Party and like it.
We’re pretty sure Kate won’t.
